So the other day a Dodge Ram 1500 truck pulls up next to me on a 45mph hiway and starts stomping his throttle and pulling ahead, then backing off until I got up next to him and doing it again.
He did this 4-5 times, and when the next stop light came up he rolled down his window and asked if I ever race my car.
I told him I have the same motor he does with probably 100 or more horse power than his in a 1000 lb lighter vehicle so what's the point?
It happens all the time but always with trucks, so what is it with these truck guys always wanting to race a car?

Did you get a look at the driver of the truck? Was his drivers seat head rest (or his chest) pretty close to the steering wheel? If so, it's the classic case of small man syndrome or Napoleon complex.

There are some diesel trucks out there making serious hp/torque... you might be surprised. A stock Ram 1500, not so much.

The other day I encountered a diesel 4x4 pickup, lift kit, huge tires, with manufacturer's stickers all over it. I was driving my '97 BMW 540i which looks outwardly stock (282 hp) but has a Dinan blower (414 hp). He thought he'd smoke me. Hee hee.

diesel trucks can pack some serious tq.ive had quite a few want to race me when im out. usually i let they go,but other times i show them 500 hp from a duster.i dont know where all these kids get thier money.60k truck, and they throw another 20k in them.

I had one those douche's with a lifted, black smoke pouring F250 trying to race once, needless to say I couldn't see him in my mirror anymore.

This was a guy about 40 I would guess, and was very polite in his manor so I got the impression there was nothing but fun involved.
Yep, some of those turbo diesels are flippin fast but not very quick.

Ha ha, me too but there was a cop on the other side of this guy's smoke I didn't see and when I cleared the smoke doing 70 in a 45 he was right there and nothing was going to change it.:D
He did let me off easy though with a 30 dollar fine for wasting fuel. (AKA wasting finite resources)

Have ya thought about moving to a bigger town where ya ain't the only hick driving a car?

At least he wasn't an *** about it. Maybe he had a muscle car once and never got it out of his system.

I appreciate folks into cars enough to "have a little fun". I've personally raced some cars in a few trucks I've had.... and won most of them. :D
But Trailbeast beware....... There are some smok'n fast trucks out there. I've personally watched these drive in to the drag way. Yep, I saw a Ram Diesel 4 door, 4x4 lifted, huge tires, drive in, go 11's, and drive home.

Some people just want to see and hear an old muscle car getting on it. It's not really about racing.

Happens to me all the time. Once had a guy in a mini-van with his two boys reviving me. I down shifted and and made some noise, the kids were cheering.

Or he has a fast mopar at home and wanted to see Trailbeast's car run a little.

There's definitely some fast cars around but mine isn't really in the light to light category.
That said, I'd race anyone in almost any car to the beach and back. :D

So, maybe we found the reason you didn't race him at the lights..... scared of loos'n ??? :poke:
Sorry.... had to tease ya

I'm always racing my diesel. I have a 6.4 Liter Powerstroke mildly built. Last Dyno was 585 hp 1120 tq. She is also my daily driver and I use her for work and play.

We were doing 35-40 when he was goosing it and I would have smoked him badly from that speed.
My car will do that in first gear. :D
At the lights we were behind a bunch of other cars.

Had the opposite happen to me while driving my 77 PU. For some reason a guy in a 80's Mustang came up on me and started goosing it. We were going slow enough for a drop into first gear. He couldn't hang with the 440. We hit traffic and he was killing himself trying to get back up next to me but never did.

Now that I could understand easier because he probably thought he was picking on something he could beat.
He probably traded that Mustang in the next day. :D

I changed my mentality of pickups many years ago, when I was still in elementary school. My oldest brother had a Ford pickup with a 460 in it, and he beat a lot of cars in the 1/4 mile with it "street racing out of town". I had a '70 Dodge truck that I stuck a 340 in and I beat a 5.0 mustang.

It's really not about somebody with little man syndrome, or somebody seeking identity. Truly now pickups are players, and have been for many, many years now. They have a few advantages. Most trucks easily fit a big block, headers are a cake walk, some come with a stout rear end from factory, rear wheel wells swallow some big tires, and some people just are truck folks.... the ride, how you sit in them. For sure, trucks are not to be taken for feed haulers.....
