hey guys, i just ordered some 15X8 withs 4.5 inch backspacing with some 275/60-15s for my SBP 8 3/4 duster

they clear the springs...barely
im thinking of adding some spacers to ensure it wont rub on the springs during cornering BUT i dont want to add more then i need to, because i like as much threads on my lugnuts as possible

so, what would be the minimum clearance i want between my springs and tires?

mine are close also,do some hard cornering and check for rub on inside of tire.i run the same tire as yours with no issues.they are as close as yours

I like at least 1/2" if I can get it. have about that on my 295 65 15 rears.

I run the same width rim with 4.25 BS and 275x60x15 555R Nitto drag radials. I tried 4.5 but I didn't feel to good with the clearance

3/8". Absolute minimum. But as long as you keep your tire pressure right it should be okay. Make sure you're measuring the smallest clearance. 1/2" would be better, you'd be safe at a 1/2".

My Duster actually has a very questionable 3/8" to the springs, it's marginal, more like a fat 5/16" :p. I've never had the springs and tires rub even cornering hard. But the 295/35/18's I've got have shorter sidewalls.

i looked at a few different vendors for the wheels i bought (US mags 101, slots) it looked like the same wheels with 4.5 inches of backspacing and 4.25 inches of backspacing had the same partnumber, so even though i hoped for 4.25 but such is life

i should get my new drums in today, and with them on and everything torqued down i can get a proper measurement but it looks like i have 3/16th now

if that remains, i can add a 3/16th spacer to it and i should be good...or should i go with 5/16th just to be safe ?
or, would 5/16th not leave enough threads on the studs to properly tighten the lugnuts?

(these are the stocker 7/16th lugs)

THANKS GUYS

I would make sure the stud comes to at least the outside of the nut. If that means using 3/16 spacers, try those.

I run 1/8" with 325/50-15s on ten inch rims,at 24 psi.But since these tires tend to rub on the inner fenders when cornering aggressively, the body keeps them off the springs, lol. These are actually my track tires, and I put 4 runs on them. Sometimes I bolt them on for show. I don't actually run them into corners much.
With my regular street tires, the 295/50-15s on 10s,I have run that same 1/8 too but since I know how sensitive the sidewalls are to abrasion, and there is some outboard room, I spaced the wheels out to get about 3/8 inch. This has never rubbed, even at 20 psi. The car corners pretty flat, and most of the time the tires are spinning and probably that tucks the sidewalls in too; it's great to have a torquey360.
I seen a picture in a magazine once where the guy could just get a credit card in there. This was on a 2nd gen Barracuda(68 I think) with a 451(IIRC) stroker. I tend to think he wasn't in to cornering. That mag was at least year 2000 or earlier.
I think the arch on the springs pays an important roll in keeping the body side-sway to a minimum; mine have very little arch.
For those guys recommending 3/8 or 1/2 inch targets, those IMO are pretty safe.
