Another WIW thread, Now with Pictures '75 Duster 360, A63 interior

-
Well I went and saw it, and it's totally a numbers matching '75 duster 360, black on black with a red stripe do to the A63 decorators package interior.

Has build sheet, fender tag, and the VIN all matches.

Needs front fenders, which he is including two nice ones in the sale. But needs a total resto with the exception of the front seats. He found the fabric in Scotland and had it shipped, had the local upholsterer redo them for him. The only thing he did different here was put red vynil in place of where the factory orange would go. He didn't do the rear seat which is a bit of a bummer.
He also decided to weld patch panels for the quarter panels in himself and did what I would consider to be an okay amateur job, also did the trunk floor but the cars overall appearance is rough and needs much more attention.
On a plus it is totally complete with the exception of the smog pump and related paraphernalia, in fact the egg light in the cluster was on because of that. But the motor, and it's manifolds and everything are there and are original and need rebuilt. The transmission actually shifted nice when I drove it.

I will post. Few pics from my cell phone on another post.

Back to what's it worth??? Any ideas? I think he wants too much myself and he says he's firm.

Now that you put it that way, I'm just going to drive enjoy my road runner and stay away from this car. I'm a sucker to see what things can be, not what they are! Thanks for chiming in and 'grounding' me.

If anyone long distance is interested in buying this let me know, I can help arrange the deal and shipping for you..... It would be a cool car when done for sure.

there you go, sometimes what your looking at and what your seeing isnt the exact same

i agree, this would be a cool car once done, shoot, even if it were a driver but the way it sits now, i'd pass too

Yes, a neat car once done but you would be upside down in the restoration costs if trying to sell it afterwards.

Since you're passing on it, what is the near firm price the owner is asking?

I was going to say in it's current state $5K - $5,500

Top condition A+ restored $18K or a little north of that.

If putting that kind of dollars into it then I would keep it. The way it was with mine, after buying a solid rust free CA car and interior, I had put $8K into a rebuilt engine. I will never see that money back, but my car will go to my son after I'm gone.

I believe its Houndstooth interior? In my opinion it would be nicer with black interior. The HT is too busy with the "simple" black paint.

Estimated value as is would be about $3800-4500!! I can't see it going anywhere at $6k unless he finds a fish with more dollars than sense!!

Are the floor pans rust free? What kind of job did he do on the trunk pan?

gotta have pro resto?, gotta have a "show car"?, want to sell later and "get" ya money back????? ha ... you better be dong a car that will bring big bucks at an idiot place like BJ... otherwise.....
learn to do body/paint work, get off the gotta win a trophy at the local show, and enjoy your mopar/hobby.... forget bout all this " whats will it be worth IF",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
this car would be a nice conversation car for those into that. I doubt that interior package would bring any extra dime.....want a better investment, find a good 70-1 340 A body maybe? or forget this investment idea??

I don't 'gotta' win a trophy at any show and I fact likely will not show my current car at any shows as I'm not really into sitting around all day, even though it is very likely 'trophy' ready. I am somewhat conflicted about my lack of desire to enter shows. I really enjoy going to them, and I supposed if everyone had my point of view there would be no shows to go to.... I should probably enter a few this year.

It is also not all about the investment for me, however as we all do seem to like to change cars from time to time, even though we say we'll never sell our current ride (lol), it is nice not to lose you azz when doing so, so yes investment is somewhat important as I think I'm a sensible person and am not willing to take a constant loss on every car I own. One way to accomplish this is to restore it proper, which now a days generally means rotisserie or equivalent restored. This way it does retain its maximum value, even if that value is less than what you have into it. A break even is a good scenario here too.

I am Pretty busy and don't have the time and money required to set up a restoration shop complete with down draft booth for painting so learning to do body and paint myself doesn't make a lot of sense. Hence the expensive cost of doing a car these days.

You have a valid point and I also do agree that for many, they just want something Bitchin and cool drive around in regardless of its 'state' or worth, and to that point I salute them. It's not for me, but it is for them and good on them. I don't knock that and will also not knock someone who is geared more like I am and prefer to drive around in a super nice restored ride. It just makes me feel better, and if I have to sell at the end of the day for one reason or another, I won't loose as much money as the other guy.

My last thought that I'd like to share here today is that I truly wonder why so many seem to knock Auction houses like Barrett Jackson, Mecum, etc.... I'm greatful they exist for many reasons. Two being, one that they help connect enthusiasts with product which helps keep the passion of muscle cars going for everyone in many way, without the desire there would be no market, no aftermarket manufacturers and no retailers to sell me the restoration parts I do want, and the other reason is they help people like me get the maximum for my ride when I want to sell making investing money into my muscle car a viable option

I admit to have never attended BJ, I have seen it on TV a few times. (choke) why most people in this HOBBY detest BJ??? why?? cause we feel it is responsible for the general trend of people wanting idiot prices for project cars. and even cars restored to some degree (many time thrown together crap for BJ $$).... personally do I have a problem with anyone getting top dollar, a HIGH price for their totally restore wonderful example of their model? NO.... ore power to them. BUT we hobbiest want to buy unrestored cars for what their true value is, example: some flipper buys a 68 Satelitte and does the "resto: job on it to sale at BJ....ie: roadrunner clone. this car I BET will never bring as much $$ anywhere else, anytime, ever as it does at BJ. the guy back out in the real work sees this inflated price and figures his POS sat. ,, that is not even a decent parts car! is worth many $$$ !!??? if BJ keeps our desire for these old Mopars alive, then something is missing.

think a bout this. it basically costs the same to restore, say a 340 73 duster that it does a 69 440 charger rt, the difference is basically the cost of the PROJECT CAR. and which car will bring a lot more at sale time? the charger... if $$$ invested vs what the sale of your mopar is high up on your priority list, smart money goes to pickng the right ar to put $$ in to start with.

fact is the vast majority of people here on FABO, are into the hobby for its true hobby value, the investor types are gravitated to the E body and more desirable B bodies.

it is great if a person can spend $25000 to restore a car ( have it restored) and then find out it will only bring $12000.

None of your post really made any sense, really, both grammatical and the message. However, it feels like you are generally disagreeing with me and that's fine.

Good luck with your car and future car's and their restorations.
