340 528. Purple cam question

That camshaft will pull at least 16 hG vacuum, probably more. It's a great camshaft. Makes me wanna get one ground for a Ford.
 
So no internal mods ? Can a stock rotating assembly 340 can take that cam at 7000 rpm ??? I wasnt planning to build a 5k motor , i bought parts to built it to stock specs but running headers and this cam , with hv oil pump and hv gas pump
 
241 @ .050 on a 112. Nuff said.

Also, keep in mind, when comparing a solid to a hydraulic, the solid will "act"about 10* smaller, so to compare apples to apples here, that .528 now is lookin more like 231 @ .050. ......on a 112. Not to mention the mysterious fact that Mopar cams rarely stack up to their specs on a degree wheel.

Respectfully;I didn't say too big. I said "That cam is IMO,a lot more cam than you need for 375/400".
And for a streeter putting the power in the heads, means you can run less cam and less gear, which translates to more miles driven on the same dollar of gas. To me that was very important, as the car was to be a DD, and to prove it I racked up more than 125000 miles in about 10 years.
To buy a cam because it's available cheep, is somewhat foolhardy. Now you're stuck trying to make it work.

If you are planning a stock engine with less than an actual 9.5:1 cr like the post 71 engines, I would go with a milder cam and sell that to someone that could really use it. The x,j,o heads that have the 2.02" intakes will work, but as AJ said, I would put work in them. I ran the cam 2 degrees advanced and I still kept my redline to 6700 with all forged stuff inside. Any higher than that is strictly for racing, and not longevity. Just my $.02
 
Somebody as dyno specs of a regular 340 with this kind of cam ? A friend of mine told me that it can bring a duster in the 11s

At 101 MPH you should have been (or should say you were making enough HP) to run high 12's. That puts you ~ 290 HP
At 108 MPH you should have been 12 teens or so. At the same weight you had ~ 340 HP.

MPH is horsepower. ET is hook.

I ran that cam in my '72 Duster 340. EXCELLENT cam with awesome sound ! Wish I had kept that cam. My combo was : 915 castings , ported by me with 2.02/1.600 valves flowed [email protected] lift. harlin sharp 1.65 rockers, .030 over 9.5c.r. , 1 3/4 hooker super comp's. Holley strip dominator, 750 holley mech. sec. 430 gears, hoosier 28X9, 727 3500 10" convertor .3400lbs W/me .all steel street car. Best was 11.61 @114.47 . would run 11.70'S all day. 7.508 @92 in 1/8th. I pulled those heads off and went with bowl ported 915's, 2.020/1.600 , those flowed 232 cfm @.500 lift.same cam, same compression, same intake, same headers, changed out carb to Holley 3310 ,750 Vac. sec. now it runs 12.25 @ 110.72 . 7.85 in 1/8th @89 . on street tires this time. mostly street driven now. Yes excellent camshaft. it will run the numbers for you.

Yes bone stock 2.02/1.60's, just a lap in of the valves...I used fel-pro h/gaskets so comp was probably only mid to highish 9's.

Yes I know mph is hp and ET is hook, and my car didn't hook like a stocker to get your no's. it was on stock 340 l/springs with a snubber and long shocks, with worn fronts thats all. I guess you use the Moroso slide rule whereas I have always used Wallace which has been very accurate for my and others cars I've inputted that have actually gone down the track here at SP.
12 teens is 110mph@390fwhp
High 12's are 104@330fwhp.

To give you another example my 3000lb 446ci Cuda ran [email protected] = 600fwhp with a 1.39 60 which was more or less spot on with the Wallace calc....again not stocker 60's. We do have a '69 Chevelle A/SAA car that runs those no's 9.90's@131 and some change with 1.28 60's. I think the Wallace software was based on cars that left reasonable but nothing spectacular as if you input a stockers ET/mph it kinda all goes wrong, very light cars also messes it up some.

I don't know if that cam will make it to 7,000. In a 440 that cam is all done making power way before 6k. Somewhere in the 5600-5800 range is where it tops out, even with the biggest of carbs and biggest of headers.
 
In my mates 12.7:1 440 1050Dom, Victor int., 5000stall, 4.56's the DC.590 sft went down at the top end at around 6800 and had to be shifted at 6300ish otherwise it would slow, so yes the .528 would be dead before that I would think with less duration. The same .590 sft in my stock 340 would still pull well at 6400 through the lights, I would imagine that would go to 7000 but I never went there, doubt if the .528 would run hard to 7k?
 
It's worth mentioning that cam has a really flat power curve. It doesn't fall off fast. So it is entirely possible to take it past peak HP RPM and still have it pulling hard. Perhaps as it is in my case, beneficial.
