Where can I find an affordable 2800+ torque converter for a 904?

Why not send a pm to John Cope, he is a vendor on here, you have to get a convetor that matches up with the engine and drivetrain ie; cam, compression, rear gears and what you want to do: street, race etc.

You feeling OK Tony... PTC??? :)

I have used a few Hughes converters and they seem to work pretty well.

You're going to spend about $500 on a good converter.

I have a 2500 stall converer from PTC. Works great and does exactly what PTC said it would!!

I like Turbo Action personally. Ive used both the 10" 3000 and 8" 3800 converters with good results.

and probably the worse place to skimp on if your looking for good performance.

Yeah, what's the dirt on PTC converters? I may buy one soon.
X2...
I as looking at the PTC converters for my L/U 727. Is there anything wrong with them? I definately don't want another TCI, and I seem to have limited options for a performance converter.

I have a 3000 stall PTC behind my 318/904. John Cope recommended this one for me after giving him all my info. on eng. cam, comp. gears, tires size. etc.

made that mistake twice, 1 gm 1 mopar
both were supposed to be 11 2500, ended up stalling maybe 2100 behind mild sb motors.

Ive also used a 10 tci race conv. ( in the 80's when they were good )
and a 8 in neil chance ( pg )
paid some money, but well worth it

the next one i buy will prob. be turbo action

Anyone thought of taking their convertor to a local re-builder to have one built to specs...We got a re builder here that does the Austin area...
Surely someone local to you all rebuilds them, call your local transmission shop and ask who they use.

ya here in the motor city there is plenty of places I am sure would do it but at what cost...... :???:

I used TCS here in BC but they were close to 700 with shipping for a 2800 custom stall { anything under 3200 I believe in this size } 10 " for my 904 .

Summit has Hughes converters and others in that stall for a 904 they are afforadable, remember you get what you pay for.

As it's been previously mentioned, define affordable, and do you need a 2800 stall? As I've said before, I don't care whose converter you end up with, get the one that is suited for YOUR CAR. Just because a converter works properly in another application does not mean it will work in your case. Take the advise of guys here on the board and contact the various builders they recommend. They will have a spec sheet on their website that you need to fill in "HONESTLY" and they'll build you the one that will work in your car. B.S. them about what you've done to the engine, rear axle ratio, tire size etc., and no matter who builds it, it won't do what you want. Ask about warranty, ask about re-stalling it should there be an issue. If you let price be your only guide, you'll soon find out that you get exactly what you paid for, and I know this from seeing many
"cheap high stalls" apart.
Just my opinion from working in the industry.
