Would like to see how people installed aftermarket Ratchet Shifters while maintaining their Factory Auto Console.
What Make and Model Shifter did you use and what Modifications were required?
Post 'em up!

I am using a B&M Quicksilver. Here are some pics. I made an indicator plate to bolt to the console because I wanted the shifter to properly show what gear it is in when my wife drives it

Very well done! I like that a lot.
Interesting that I have a 68 console top plate for our 69 and you have a 69 top plate in your 68.
Or is that a 68 dash in a 69?
Either way, I like it.

I installed a Hurst Quarter Stick in a stock auto console. I cut the center bar out of the stock shifter opening and it fits very tight, but operates perfectly. I used aluminum angle to make a bracket and mount it directly to the console top.

I am very happy with it, however it is back out right now because I don't love the red console top so that is being redone. It is a very simple install with swap meet parts but I think it turned out great. It is a Barracuda top in a Duster, I know.

Mine is a Quicksilver as well, but I raised mine up for a more comfortable position and used the B&M cover on top of the console.

Just installed my Turbo Action shifter. I moved the shifter back about were the ash tray was. I didn't want to cut up the original top so I cut out a plastic top and put carpet on it to finish it off. Might black out the wood grain yet on the console lid.

The car is a 68 so the dash is correct for it. I didn't know the top plate is a 69. It's the console that was in the car when I bought it. How do you tell the difference?

67 68 are silver with a black groove down the center. Possibly earlier too...

69 wood grain with no groove.

Hurst Pro-Matic 2 in a 65 console. Imagine a stock console with a solid black ball on top and HURST on the shifter shaft, thats the only difference..and you cant run the stock ashtray. no pics off hand.

Nice looking jobs .
No pics here. If u want to shift it w/ a harness buckled up at the dragstrip, move it back. I "raised" my cheeta shifter and moved it "back" 5". Had to make a new insert for the top tho. Also used black speaker box material to cover the new insert. Doesn't look bad at all.

Another thread on the subject.

aftermarket shifter in factory console

Still getting ready to do this swap myself. I have a Hurst Promatic and a B&M Quicksilver on hand. Think I'm going with the Quicksilver, but still kinda iffy on what cable and length I want to order.

Thanks!

Those are the 2 I would consider so far. Looks like they are very similar in operation and fitment.
Lean towards the Quicksilver too.

Would like to see one with a Hurst Pistol Grip though! :)

4 foot. Had a heck of a time running it so it was far enough away from the headers. First cable burned up in no time. Second cable I put a heat sheeth on to protect it
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
definitely do this !

So, looking for ideas on the bracket I need to fab to mount the Quicksilver under my console. Cutting the factory bracket out at the welds, but don't want to chop it up.
Dimensions would be helpful also. Would like to get the height correct on the first try.
What did you use to make it and did you weld or bolt it in?

Not seeing how the 4ft cable is gonna get there so far. I bought the cable I listed and it is THICK...and not very flexible.
Trans is out of the car and shifter not mounted yet, so a little hard to visualize what it's gonna have to route around.
Any pics?

i ran a 4ft with a winters shifter in a couple 69' darts before. PIA. just got an 8ft for the next time i install it. figure i'd rather have to fasten a larger loop under the car than be trying to make some tight *** angle.
