Bad news for those of us who feel we receive a little "discount" using out of state vendors.

Yeah, and? You were hoping that the gravy train would roll on forever?

It's downhill from here, but not the downhill that keeps a train rolling.

Anything to justify taking more of peoples money.
They sure are good at making taxes under the claim that one of the benefits is the protection of the US Government.

Did the victims of 9/11 get a refund = No
Did they protect the election process = No
Are they protecting us from this supposed new Russian hacking of our routers = No
Since when is it our responsibility to protect ourselves from the frickin Russians hacking our routers?
How much money will be spent by people that don't know how to do a factory reset and firmware update?

Here's what the FBI says.
FBI to all router users: Reboot now to neuter Russia's VPNFilter malware | ZDNet

This is the update from Forbes.
That Russian Router Malware Is More Dangerous Than We Thought

Hearing this on the news right now. I call Bullshit!

Why? Taxes were always due to the States for purchases made in other States. In the past, the buyer was responsible to pay them. Now, they are just putting the burden on the retailers to collect them at the point of purchase just like they do within their own state.

So now I have to pay shipping AND tax for online sales.
But only tax on brick and mortar store sales in my state?
That doesn't' sound like it "levels the playing field" to me unless I'm missing something.
It sound like a money grab.
Walmart is happy now, I hear?
That tells me something too.

How does it work in states like Delaware that have no sales tax.
This ruling only applies to purchase made on line from outside the state and shipped into the state. There haven’t been any attempts yet to enforce the retailers to collect taxes from people who drive across state lines to make purchases and then take them back across state lines.

However, if you go to Delaware and buy something and have it delivered to PA they will collect the tax. In fact, they have been doing that for several years now.

I know, I just wanted to use my "I call B/S" Thing. My wife is the CFO of the city we live in. $150 million isn't enough to do all we need to get done every year. The more tax money that is side stepped by internet sales is more property tax for the citizens. It's all relative.

By audits...just like all tax compliance is enforced.
So you buy something from Oregon with no sales tax from CA over the internet, and CA gets a cut? The OR retailer is going to charge you? What if you have an OR PO box and have them ship it there. This is nuts.....

Oregon is one of five states with no statewide sales tax, but Oregon law still allows municipalities or cities to enact their own local sales taxes at their discretion. Ashland, for example, has a 5% local sales tax on the sale of prepared food.

Not hard to figure out. If you live in a state that has a sales tax, the seller in another state that sells you goods and ships them to your state, is required to collect the sales tax for your state and pay it to them. If they don’t ship across state lines, then only the originator state sales taxes are due if they have them.

The bigger problem is here in CA, EVERY DAMN COUNTY has a different tax rate !! Going to be a nightmare for me selling on Ebay I bet .

There’s no way to enforce such a thing. Other states may charge you the tax, saying it’s law, but very well never send to the state it was supposed to go to. More money for them.

California asks on the State Taxes, did you purchase anything out of state or on line......they want a piece of the pie.

The retailer collects the tax and sends it to the appropriate state. It does not get paid to one and then transferred to the other.

Most people think that buying things on the internet is great for consumers and a wonderful way to stick it to the man. They don't realize that e-commerce has cost more American jobs and funneled more wealth to the one percent than any other cause.

Anybody feel like a California gun owner yet?
Nope.

It isn’t a conspiracy and no one has changed anything. It is just now the states have the support of the SCOTUS to collect the taxes they were due all along. The individuals that owed it cheated by not paying it and they are closing that mechanism down.

You mean "closing the loophole"? :poke:
I'm just having some fun with you. Don't take it seriously from me, I've had a long day.

I understand that, I have had a long day today too. I just hate seeing people complaining about finally having to pay what they were legally required to do all along...and then act like it’s some sort of new government money grab.

*sigh* I guess my tolerance tank has been running low lately...

At least the weekend is around the corner and we can refill our tanks.
:usflag:

That’s what I’m saying, the retailer may do this to get more money. The bigger companies, I’m sure, will do the right thing.

But the tax collected/charged, should be from the state the item(s) are bought in.
