So let's say for example that a car has been "restored" say for example a 72 duster
A 340 or 360 sits in the engine bay, the front brakes have been swapped to newer disk brakes, rear end upgraded to a torque handler. Someone swapped in buckets and a console with good correct parts. Maybe a sharktooth grille to add flavor. A nice shiney mopar high impact color that is nice and waxable.
All that said, would it matter for the overall value of the car if it were originally a 318 v8 over a slant, or would the original engine size be irrelevant.???
Before you swap motors into a /6 or teener car, make sure it’s not a rare documentable car.
Any car that is not original to its fender tag and build sheet is not worth the same value as a documented original car.
It’s worth what it is to you but don’t expect others to share your valueation.
I agree Abodyjoe, the market for even a surviving slant A body is small, and as we know the slant guys are notoriously "conservative"> Lets face it, survivors of any kind are coll, but cool does nit always equal big $$, just like a rare does not always equal $$$$.
Yes you could buff that original slant and have it looking pretty darn good for the age, take it to a local pumkin roller car show, and have many people tell their slant stories and uggle over it, BUT I bet that ain't your deal.
I think Rani's original question was about where to drop in here 340, the rust free slant Duster, or the rusted banged up 318 Duster.

Do what is best for your pocket book, a clean car, with a weekend of bolt ons is cheaper that cutting a car in 1/2 and fixing rust, that takes a year or more.
My car is an old 318 poop brown auto, that is now a 340 4-speed.
Worth more than a poop brown 318? I dont know its not for sale.

Still works just fine.I've always had major disdain for them hood scoops, but it looks super good on your car. How's that air ratchet workin?
thats not really solving anything..
if identical in shape the H code will always be worth more. that being said the original slant/318 car will be worth more then it would be all original..
But would an original 1973 /6 car be worth more than a 1973 car that used to be a slant turned into a 360 with an 8 3/4 sg rear?
