I'm helping my brother in-law on his dart. It's a 1967 Dart Swinger with a 273. It has a Carter AFB Competition series carb.
He ran it with open headers for a long time, and we just recently put exhaust on the car. Now he said he revved it up to about 5k let off but wouldn't drop below 3k no matter what he did. So he killed it. Started it again and had normal idle, this time after revveing it stayed at about 2.5k and he couldnt get it to drop. I cant see any reason why exhaust would cause this, does anybody have ideas? Anything it much appreciated! Thanks.

The exhaust is not causing that. It's more than likely something associated with the carburetor linkage, or possibly transmission kickdown linkage, if it is an automatic. That could have been disturbed possibly when the exhaust was put on. I would also check the primary and secondary linkage and butterflies on the carburetor to make sure they are closing all the way. Make sure the throttle cable is also free and the throttle return spring is present and accounted for.

Check advance plate, but it needs air to idle that high, and the only way it will get metered air is through the throttle plate. check the throttle when its turned off. Let it idle high and just turn off ignition and then look into carb

>>Yo Rusty, go to bed, its 12:30 AM!

Thanks so much! I'll run down this list with him!

67 Dart Swinger ??
There had to be a first one. I have the first 1969 dodge demon that was tried out before the 1970 model year

I think 69. I didn't know there was a "Swinger" and "Swinger 340", as in two separate packages. I thought they were all Swingers were Swinger 340's for 69.
