Most of the time, it’s from years of experience related to a certain subject. Although, in my observation, there are numerous gurus on any given subject, all with good input. I know a lot about early A body cars, but I am by no means a guru. I simply learned by assembling, and more often disassembling them. And, I rely on a lot of other likeminded people when I pursue an answer that I don’t know about them. And anybody that knows me knows that I have a very good memory for all things I encounter. That to me is a curse, I tend to never forget, and hold onto things for too long. I also tend to talk in movie, song and TV quotes! Just in case I need to answer that $1m question for all the money, I guess.

so if we put ourselves in a small crowd of folks with little knowledge on car topic, we become the guru in the crowd? Are there different levels of Guru's.....

Pretty subjective, one common theory is that it takes 10,000 hours the work in the field. To me there are many skills and several "guru's" for each.

The term guru is subjective to me. While helping my son get his '70 on the road, his buddies would come by to help us out. I thought that was cool, cuz I could then sit on the patio with a cold beverage and "read up on threads on Fabo" for the next repair. 16teen year old newbies called me "yoda". LMFAO.. I'm just a wannabe dumbass that knows how to turn a wrench and READ! There are threads on here that I've had to read 10 times over and I still don't understand. Alot of smart, experienced people/guru's on here in my opinion.

I think there's several different kinds of gurus related to this forum...
It's pretty easy to tell who the gurus are..
Just try and question or challenge any one of them and if the whole entire forum jumps your s*** there a guru.. they're not to be treated as if they put their pants on one leg at a time, but as if they're lowered into their pants two legs at a time...

The one guru on youtube that I would trust is Nick Panaritis from Nick's Garage in Quebec. Really like his vids.

I can't tell you how funny this is to me..
Here's one of our forums biggest gurus quoting me about another member(Guru) saying "a buddy of has" has a 340 with Factory cast iron heads was doing and 9 second quarter mile on a thread from 2007 about best ET with J or cast iron small block heads...
I'm putting this one under "gurus Gone Wild"... LOL
Notice the said 620 hp is never made..lol..
MAKE YOUR GUESS AT WITCH GURU...

But it's easy for any engine builder..
First off, you don't NEED a block. Blocks weren't 3500 bucks either, until Chrysler crapped on everyone. I don't even think a Ritter is that much.

So let's do some easy math and see how hard it is to go 9's. Let's say 9's at 3100 pounds and let's say 9.80ish just for rough numbers.

To run a 9.80 in a 3100 pound car takes about 620 HONEST HP. That's all. I have zero doubt there is no less that a dozen and a half engine builders on here that can do that low number falling off a log. The number isn't hard to hit.

So, you can take a 340-360 base engine, get a decent piston, the correct cam and a set of very well ported iron heads and you can do damn close to 600 on pump gas. You'll be shifting at 7500 or so, but who cares? If you use a 4 inch crank you can drop the RPM down to 6000 or so.

Edelbrock heads make it even easier, but even on pump gas 280 CFM and a well sorted combo will do 600 hp or damn close. I did 565 on Edelbrock heads with a hydraulic roller and 10.5:1 compression back in 2000. But I did the heads and I did the intake manifold and I spec'd the headers and ignition.

If you're not sure about that, ask lead69. He was privy to that build.

That engine above would have made 50 HP more with a bigger cam. It was grossly under cammed. A solid roller would have added another 35-40 at a minimum to that. All on pump gas.

And you have to have the chassis to support that. I see lots of 500 hp engines running 12's because they ain't 500 hp. And I see a lot of 500 hp engines running 12's because the chassis and the chassis tune up is junk.

Does your avatar have to have a machine shop machine a cylinder head or a car doing a wheelie? To be a guru?...

Who is a guru according to you is perspective.

A guru is someone who’s knows much. Not necessarily everything. Which I find that impossible to be honest with you. That said person also may not know the best, cheapest, easiest way, but yet, could be very helpful.
Finally, a guru is willing to spread his knowledge and learn about yours.

Somekne once contacted me on an electrical issue stating I always helped him before and called me a guru in that. I, L!M!A!O! & said not I! But I think Del is great it this electrical stuff. He is my go to guy. I know a thing or two in suspension and wheels and tires. But not like some other people here I’ll tell ya that one real loud!

Sometimes, I am amazed at what some of the members know. And I thank them every time they help.

I like him too but I've seen some gurus around here drag him through the mud.

Every guru I've ever known never had to say how good he was, not once.

OR in fact went the opposite and said he didn't know that much at all. That's the sign of a real one. You're gettin close I think.

I've built engines, automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, rear ends, front ends... Built My Own frame connectors, headliner, on my second set of truck floor boards all with pictures and how to and answered everybody's questions if they needed help doing it themselves... oh yeah and the clutch Tamer LOL what am I ?? -- the redheaded stepchild of the Forum LOL..
Guru status belongs to people who need it.. me? I'm just a chicken throw...lol..

WHAT MAKES A GURU ?
I aint got a clue !!
There are a few on here I`d call that tho------------

I see a lot of questions posted up about various different topics. Many turn into a feud and arguing. I basically quit throwing my 2cents around. I have found, after 40 +years of busting knuckles there is always more than one way to accomplish the same goal. Right ,wrong or indifferent.
Some think "If you can't dazzle em with brilliance, Baffle em with Bullshit"
When I ask a question here, I take the information and try to figure it out from there.:rolleyes:
