I remember the photos of LA smog as a kid.
Fortunately wasn't that bad the times I visited - 20 years later.

Most of the emissions stuff works well enough and doesn't hurt performance or economy much, now.
There's a few emissions items that were definately a big drag both in performance and economy. Really hated what the timing delay did to the six cylinders. IMO that was the worst. Not much love for early cats either. Fortunately even the big companies got wise and started using high flow/low cats - my recollection was the Fox chassis mustang and t-birds lead on that front amongst the big three.
 
Fargo back on it’s feet and back in storage. Empty oil drain and bring in ford 500 for an engine mount and service.
Been snowing on and off all day,wish we would get a foot or so then quit.

Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is: Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older. Diesel powered 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs.
Which is funny because there are no smog features on any Dodge Cummins until 2008

Figuring out all the analog controls isn't that bad when you're interested (and have some patience).
Problem is finding parts - especially one year only stuff.
Also fixing things that should have been done when the engine was out. :mad:
Almost everything works. Only thing left is to install the vacuum motor on the snorkel for when the engine off.

Well nasty damp weather today killed the progress on the Coronet so looks like I'm taking the DD to Tucson. :mad::mob::(
 
Well, that was a heart-stopping moment. Was just coming home from the post office going about 40 mph when I came up on a line of traffic stopped for the traffic light. I hit the brakes like normal and...oh ****...pedal right to the floor and no braking action at all!

Slammed it into low gear to scrub some speed and mashed hard on the parking brake then quickly shifted in to neutral. Guard rail with no shoulder on the right and cars coming fast in the opposite direction. I thought about planting it into the guard rail if it wasn’t going to slow down fast enough to stop before rear ending the stopped car ahead.

Thankfully, it came to a stop about 10’ short of the impact.

Nursed it home with flashers on while going 5 mph and using the parking brake. By the time I got into the driveway, the belts were squealing from all the brake fluid sprayed around the engine compartment. Near as I can tell, one of the steel brake lines going into the ABS block split open. Hard to tell which one, but that’s definitely where the spray was coming from.

Thanks. It was the SRT. I usually drive it in a very spirited manner, but today I was just grannying around...thankfully. 10 mph faster and I would have had to wipe it out into the guard rail.

Holy cow!!! Good job getting it stopped in time...

Be sure to clean the stain off the driver's seat...
 
No more work for me... Like I predicted, they walked me out today...

Now I don't have to put up with the BS...

I've been applying to stuff online, but have been for 4 months now with no luck...

Plan for now is to keep looking, taking my class, and applying for unemployment for the first time in my life... I don't like to take hand outs, but these assholes deserve it... :icon_fU:

They walked another co-worker of mine out today also... I'm not the only one... :mob:
 
I've been lucky.
One time the throttle cable frayed and hung up in the housing when I accelerated onto a crazy highway.
Tapped the pedal and the engine only revved higher.
Got on the brakes and killed motor.
Not a happy car but got over to the side and off the highway.

Another time I drove from NJ to the Fla panhandle. When I got there my Aunt needed a ride to the Post Office.
When we got back and I pulled in the their driveway, a front brake hose failed. :eek:
