I was at the parts store to pick up a few things for my Swinger, told the kid it was for a "Late Model" Dart, 1975... The kid just gawked at me and the old guy in back laughed out loud... I guess I'm just a living anachronism sometimes. :)

Yeah, I told the kid at Auto Zone I needed parts for a 69 Dart, he asked who made the Dart. Dodge, I said. Who makes a Dodge says the kid.

Thanks guys, at least I'm not the only one who thinks of '75 as a "Late Model"! Now if I can just find a place with $2 pitchers of beer, my day would be complete...

Yep.
These parts stores have changed.
Half the time I tell them a car from 1974
Cause the same part in most...lol

Our cars were manufactured before "most" of the people in the parts store were born.

In the 80's this arrogant "f" who ran a "custom shop" came in and wanted a clutch for an "early Ford." Frankly to this day I have no damned idea what all years constutes an 'early Ford' and I bet some of the "early trucks" used different clutches than the "early cars."

When you go into a auto parts store go in with no expectations and you might not be disappointed!

I caint STAND people like that. One day at the store, a prick customer came in and told one of the younger guys "I want valve cover gaskets for a small block Chevy". My guy asked year make and model and the guy got really nasty and said "they're all the $#$%!! same, you dumbass". So, I walked over and looked up some for a 78 Malibu with a 305, crossing my fingers the whole time. We HAD THEM! I told my employee to grab those. About an hour later the customer came back saying the gaskets were made wrong that two of the holes on each gasket were "in the wrong place". I told him "no, for about three years Chevy made heads with offset bolt holes on the heads on the intake side". "Now you wanna at least give us a DECADE so we might can find you the right parts?" I just love messin with people like that. LOL

I would have had to said.... oh i thought all small block Chevys where the same?

I owed a parts store in the early 80’s and I kept a set of 426 Hemi valve cover gaskets in stock for the occasion when someone asked for a set of dodge VC gaskets and state there all the same. You should see the look on their face when I thru them on the counter! At which time I would ask them for a year and engine size. Kinda would shut them the hell up.

I did. I told him now he knows they aren't all the same and next time answer my employees' questions. He's a real prick. He knows another one now. LMAO

I was thinking about this the other day. Im not old im just 35 but the older i get the more it amazes me how time passes. I got my dart in 2000 its a 75 model so its 10 years older than me. In 2000 it was 25 years old. And at that time i thought the car was absolutely ancient! But right now a 25 year old car was made in 1995 :wtf:
1995 doesn't seem like that long ago. Its crazy how the older you get the more time seems to be in a different perspective.

Haha. I can be a prick too. I try not to be but it come out every now and again

I am old enough to just nod my head with a lot of what lesser informed people spew as gospel. Aint got time to learn em.

I am finding the people behind the auto parts counter are finding themselves bored these days. They like to gab more than usual. I don't mind. I like to gab myself. Love to hear about your Uncles all drive train matching number 63 impala.
