Hey guys new to the forums, just got a 67 barracuda notch back last week!

planning on running a 408 stroker from blue print engines, with 727 trans and Dana 60 rear end with truetrac.

tires will be BF 275 60r15 or 295 50r15 (haven’t decided) if any one has photos that would help me out.

do more street driving than I will be racing, and like to cruise on the highway around 80 haha. Was thinking 355 gears, what rpm would that put me at 80, and would that still give me a ton of off the line pull?

Couple other questions:

1- do you have to move the stock gas tank with the Dana 60 rear end
2- need help with what to do to rear end and front end suspension

This is all new to me I’m a Jeep guy,
Thanks!

Dana is way over-kill, save some money here. My car, 3.55 w/ 14" tires= 3100 RPM at 65mph. Who goes 65mph anymore? You might want to consider 3.23.

So I agree- but I actually already have a Dana 60 I’m not using for my Jeep. Plan to make it a cruiser till my blueprint Warrenty runs out than look at blowers/nitrous/trans brakes Ext. I went Dana 30, Dana 44, than Sterling 10.5 on my YJ, shoulda just spent the money on the 10.5 right away, plus I already have a 60 laying in my yard :)

So your thinking 323, with 3100 rpm at 65 I agree I would think 323 would be better for me. Could always change the gears up when I want to make it more of a dragged.

The one thing I hate is slow off the line, I want it to launch

IMHO before you start spending, I'd make a list of all the problem areas you will be creating with all these changes and the parts you will need.
Sometimes making a change, requires making two more to keep it right. It's definitely going to cost. Seems like U R over doing it a little but it's good to dream.
I think the guys on this site will help you with your list. But they will need more info..

OK gotcha- so you think Ford 9” or 8 3/4, or do you think my 7 1/4 will handle the 465 HP?’

If I did a Ford 9” or 8 3/4, what would make the it cheaper on install?

One of my concern is I want to keep stock gas tank, I read some forums 60 fits with stock tank in 67’ Cuda, but looks tight to me haha.

10-4. So I totally understand its over kill for me right now, but plan to build up the engine in the future, and to me a 8 3/4 would be more expensive since I already have a 60.

Unless there’s a major downside to going 60 as far as instal, I think this is the route I would like to go. Plus I can cut it down to fit my Crager wheels and make a perfect fitment.

Anyone know fersure if I can keep stock gas tank with 60, and what you did with suspension upgrade?

Nice thing about the 8.75 rear end is that the whole chuck comes out and the gears can be installed and set up on the bench. The Dana will require the entire axle housing and all the guts to be removed from the car as a unit in order to swap gears and set them up. Unless you like doing that kind of work under the car.

What gear ratio does your dana have now? Most likely 3.54 or 4.10. The only place that I know that has 3.23s is Dr Diff, he had them made.
If you have 3.54, that's an excellent compromise gear, 4.10 is very steep for 80mph, mine is on the high side of 3700 at 75, with 27"tall tires.
Most people who want to move up to a dana don't have one, so the investment is a little daunting if you already have an 8 3/4. Since you have a 7 1/4 and a dana, the dana is a no-brainer. The dana will be fine for a blown or nitroused 408, no problem. A nine, to the same strength level might be $3000.
I think, but I don't KNOW, that a dana will clear the tank. Measure from the axle centerline of your 7 1/4, to the back of the housing, likewise measure your dana, and see if there will still be space.

Mm def a plus there- want to get the gears right the first time than haha!

9 3/4” ring gear shouldn’t ware out to fast tho ya?

I think ill start with 323, hoping the high torque of the 408 stroker will pull me nice at low RPM. I have a 4.7L stroker on my In-line 6 and its torqued like crazy

Well, if you want 3.23s for a dana 60, you will have to call Dr.Diff, cause until a year or so ago, the was no such thing.
Dr Diff contracted to have them made, and I think he sells to strange, so they can sell new 60s with that gear.

Yes 3:54, not have to change the gears that’d be even better. Yeah axle work doesn’t worry me to much, I break axles all the time and used to having to custom fabbing axles that aren’t made for that vehicle haha.

Are your tires 255 60R15 TA Radials?

Also what do you think about blueprint engines?>

I have access to a 360 core, could build it up.

But 12K with 727, full drop in with AC doesn’t sound to far off, with 50K mile Warrenty..

im running a 408 with a 727, 8.75 with 3.23 and nitto 555 275/60-15 and i believe 75 is right around 3200 RPM

When the weather clears up I can try to get some pics for you

They are nitto 555s, so they don't look anywhere near as sexy as N50s would they sure do ride nice

I dont know if anyone mentioned it yet, but I dont think they will fit the stock wheelwells of your notchback (mine is a duster, and they have more room for tires)

The 408 is a blast
Mine was build locally and dyno'd at 420 hp and I believe 450 ft/lbs
A blast to drive for sure

I like blueprint engines, I'm trying to decide between a 540" or a 598" shortblock for my opel.
My tires on my car with the 4.10s is a 275/60x15 on a 69 runner with a factory 4.10 dana. I considered changing the gear, but I thought going down to only 3.54 wouldn't be worth the cost and effort (especially since my friend/rear end specialist passed awayl). Now with 3.23 available , I'm rethinking the change.
On your tires, that vintage barracuda has a fairly open rear wheelwell, but it is not very long. A 28" tall tire, like a 275x60, might fit, but i doubt it, not without modifying the opening (done frequently). I think the shorter tire will fit, but be closer to the outside fender. On either one, wheel backspace will have to be right! You are aware that your barracuda comes with a tiny bolt pattern wheel, and there is not a lot of choices, right?
Edit, brainfart. If you swap to the dana you will have the lbp automatically.

Awesome look forward to seeing that!

Yeah was thinking about rolling the lip in, than think I could fit the 295’s, maybe narrow the suspension in an 1 or 2. Worse case scenario ill have to go 255 60r15.

Yeah was going to get axles with 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern.

Thinkin:
Rear end

Crager series 08. 15x8 51mm offset

Will probabaly have to lip the front since I got 225 60r15, but well shall see haha

I have a 67 FB Barracuda 340, 727, 3000 stall, 8 3/4 3:55 with BFG 275/60-15 tires. It runs down the highway at 65mph @ 2950 rpm
