So I went to the wrecking yard today I found myself a 360 LA roller motor in a 1990 300 series van. it only had about a hundred and fifty thousand miles on it, but I only wanted the block and 308 heads.
Just thought I'd point out that it came with a windage tray from the factory and three bolts with no oil hole and a drip plate on the cam. Roller cam LA and lifters.
So some 360 rollers came with windage trays i guess. Neat.

Score there. Build as is or a roller cam 408. Rock and roll!

It would have ran as is, but they want 400 for a complete. 121438 was the mileage.
I emptied the blocking and left with it. Pistons crank all everything was cherry I kind of wish it was cheaper so I could have just kept it as a short block. Has zero ridge and shows cross hatch. Piston were knurled skirt style. Bearings were fm hecho en mexico

Maybe thats the catch of the windage tray, where it was assembled.

Drilled for shaft rocker oiling as well ! I didnt think 90s had LA heads.

The LA 360 that came out of my ‘89 W350 has a windage tray. These are my favorite variety of the LA platform. Even more so than the 340.

I'll also point out the oil pump has a perfect acorn shape outlet that matches to a T to the main cap feed, unlike the after market pumps.

Good luck with the 308's.
You thinking they might be cracked junk?

I observed a couple things about this motor and the van that was in. one is that it had a blown passenger side motor mount that happens to be right under the AC and alternator and is somewhat difficult to get to the bolt because you have to go through the front or underneath which rules out a lot of home mechanics fixing it themselves. I had yook the core support/grill off and all was accessible....And 2 the engine was covered in acorns.. which brings me back to the motor mount and it's sitting for a long time that I wrote and got up in there and made a home out of it.

Fingers crossed, they looked good on the chambers and the flat face truck ex valves were grey and uniform. If bot....thats $142 bucks 'donated' to the greedy yard.
Thats the gamble in this game. Lol

I hope yours are not cracked, but I gave up trying to find a pair that were not cracked years ago. I have J and X heads, so why kill myself looking something a nit better. Good Luck.

Was that $142 for two cylinder heads?

Which self serve yard was this?

I haven’t been to a PickAPart in 10 years. LKQ I think bought them all out around So Cal.

How bad is it to pull the engine out of a van in a yard like this? do you cut the front out or lift he body off the engine? I think there is a 360 in a van at the yard I was at a few weeks ago but I didn't pay any attention to it because it seemed like it would be a bear to get the motor loose for them to pull it out compared to a truck.

LKQ oceanside.
Self serve. I got there at 9:24am and was carting the block n heads to the the window to pay by 12:53.
I started at the core support , radiator, front accessories .... tbi, wire connects ,hoses i cut... then covers, intake manifold /exhaust manifolds. I pried and popped them downward , both of them at the same time.
Once I pulled the intake and heads off... i put a couple head bolts in the front of the block and took the motor mounts and bell housing loose. Somebody already pulled the starter which was lucky cause I didn't want to get under there to do that. The amount of crust that falls off of these things is amazing just putting a socket over a nut and you end up with Boulders in your eyes LOL. Anyhow... two head bolts and popped her up and pried her with the converter and all from the transmission...and it just popped up and onto to the k member resting on the pan...hoisted it out and scattered it as it hung from the picker.

Pull the grill, core, condenser, radiator, belts, fan, accessories, loosen mounts...move to the top and down. Thats how you work in a mid late yr van.
Others you got through the double side doors or pas side, remove seat etc.

I know what you mean. Ive had streaks of cracked everything. For instance there was about five years where I could find 915 J heads at the local yard, the same yard in fact. Then two years later I go to look for some and they are all cracked....then it was 302 heads, same thing. I sat on a set for 8 years years till i found out they were cracked. They became guinea pigs for the seat grinder , not a total loss being i also paid half price on "half price day"..
..more...i was building a 7.3 Ford IDIT....4 sets i pulled.... all cracked. Those are 95 lbs each and the exh manifold bolts a *****...the rear head bolts are captured by the heater core box and some years the fire wall on the drivers side. You have to tie up a couple bolts on the rear passenger side so they clear the block so you can get the head up and forward and not have them catch in the head bolt recesses in the block or cylinder . On and on and on Then i find a nice tested uncracked set of 273 heads, port them, chamber work...and sell them on here... it's good exercise if anything else.
Crap shoot. Id say its been 70% good.
My favorite is that you can buy windshields there for $35 like my 67 front and rear windshield I picked up a few months back.

3 1/2 hours by yourself? You were hustling. Nice work!!! Good thing it wasn’t summer. And that doesn’t include drive time to and from.

I see online the price list shows:
ENGINE GAS (NO ACCESSORIES)
Price: $224.99
Core: $65.00

So what did they charge you for each cly head and bare block?
