Any tips to getting a “frozen” block apart? Trying to save this 230 block for my stroker as my 1st block is about 3 thou too large and my 2nd block turns out to have a crack. Found this block a couple hours away and its the right year but in tough shape, lol. Been soaking for a few days. Popped one of the rods I could get to but piston is not moving too easily even with a block of wood and a small sledge. Trying not to make things worse. Any tips? Thought about running a little Mapp gas torch around the ring land.

 
Rather than the sledge and a block of wood, try an air hammer and any attachments that you can fab to reach both sides of the piston.

After a death match trying to remove valves out of a 906 head, I found that the rapid repeated blows from an air hammer worked best rather than the single hits from a hammer. I used some aluminum bar stock between the hammer bit and the contact surface.
 
Get all Pistons out that will come loose from their bores and away from the crank and clear. Then put a breaker bar on the crank have someone with a two-by-four beat it with a hammer on top of that piston while you turn it in the same direction to break it free.

A friend of mine swears by "panther piss" 50/50 mineral spirits and ATF.
 
Bolt the block down to something solid.

Fabricate a flange that bolts to the crank, and hook that to the output shaft of any A833 transmission. Weld it up good, this will be on the news.

Hook said transmission up to a functional 440. Fire it up in neutral. At this point, it should be a 440 driving your frozen motor crankshaft through a Mopar 4 speed.

Finish your beer.

Grab your nuts with your left hand.

Grab the shifter with your right hand.

Engage clutch, slap trans into first.

Rev engine until valve float, back off one teaspoon.

Drop clutch, take selfie.

Once the engine breaks free (should take no more than one millisecond), shut er down, grab another beer, chug like these are the good old days because soon enough, they will be.

Heavy Rubber mallet on piston tops while someone is trying to turn crankshaft..worked for me...after PB blaster

I would not use evaporust . Not on engine parts! That does not look at all stuck. I have had to use sandpaper on the rusted cyl walls to get the pistons out. It takes time and oil but it can be done safely. I don't see any rust so not sure what the problem is.
 
Gotta ask, what is a 230 block?
I dont see any sign of rust in those bores. I bet it spun a bearing on a rod and seized up. Have you unbolted all the rod caps you can get at?

I have heard that they use coke in junkyards.
Yup, I had a 383 that was outside for 29 years. Put the short block in a barrel and filled it with coke. Took only a few days and it came apart. Had it in diesel for 2 weeks b4 that, didn’t get anything apart. Like they say:Coke is it. Kim
 
I second the coke. I called the machine shop and that's what they use. Only took 3 days to free up stuck pistons.

I'll have to try this. Thanks.

Everything was pretty crusty when I took it apart. Still got 2-3 lifters that haven't freed up yet. I unbolted one of the rods and can barely move the piston with a block of wood and a 2lb sledge. It's definitely the rings at this point. I'll keep soaking it.
 
If you can get the crank to move and are not re using the pistons get the rod off the crank and turn it if you can so it is away from the rod journal and beat it from the top? Allso did you try other pistons yet?
