73 Scamp 5.7 Swap

Something to look at for sure. Haven't had time to revisit it. Definitely keep us posted on your start up!

what was your initial timing set at with the msd hemi 6? or did you just let it find its way to do startup

I had a tune from my race engine that I used. I'll try to get a photo up here for you. I just went and checked the throttle set up. I'll be damned, just as you described. I thought I checked it. We're only getting half throttle. I guess 13.89 ain't bad for havin just a two barrel!!

thanks for the photo that will help. I have this but I am going to try the built in model as well. Good thing is I can do what ever it likes with the MSD. thanks a million!! and glad I could help. 13.86 on a two barrel that only tells me that you will be dipping way down to high 11, just my two cents!

Runs very well. Haven't been able to get back to the track to see how well, lol.

Well, a little update. Finally! Went to track today. DA was around 3100ish all day. 98 plus grains, 75% humidity. Best of the day was a 12.78. Way better than the last outing, obviously. Is there more? I think so. Re- degreeing cam? Carb size? 750DP Holley now. I guess for something that is TRUE street, in those conditions, isn't bad. Idk, what say the FABO crowd.

I still think the car should run low 11's. I mentioned before that eh stock cam does not need to be degreed. I think that is hurting you as well. I would also think more carb will do wonders as well. What size stall convertor are you running? I have read they like more convertor. also rear gear?
so far and it seams to run well I have 1000cfm efi throttle body 430 rear gear and 4200ish stall convertor.

I think there is more but that is found in time.

3500 converter and 3.91 gear with 26 inch tire. I'm going to redegree the cam straight up.

Hey 408 Swinger, I just took this picture. Regarding the cover of the steering hitting the valve cover, do you think the area I marked with a silver sharpie will get the job done? From your photo, it looks like you cut the whole thing off? Thanks for the help!

You're pretty dang close. Probably gonna need a little more. I did go back pretty much flush with firewall. I cut grooves back into the tube to hold the snap ring that retains the lower bushing.

Runs great! Haven't had time to see how it "really" runs. Will need a little bit of carb tuning. He loves it! He had a great time with it!

You were using the msd hemi 6 for the carb set up. Mine is a 2014 and in website it only goes to 2008 for the hemi 6. I assume it would work if I changed to the 32 tooth reluctant for the crank..but will the wiring kit for the 2008 plug in..I emailed msd haven't heard back. Also was it hard to get timing and tune right. I'm still waiting on word from machine shop if mine is a good core to rebuild..can't wait..!!!

You can use the 08 cam and crank sensors in the 2014. They'll bolt straight in. Then the MSD harness plugs in.

Ok 2008 sensors and 08 reluctor wheel. Why doesn't MSD website say it will work on 09 up lol
Because of those very changes. And it doesn't support the VVT. That's why with the bug cams, they lock the phaser.

By any chance do you think this these manifodl would work witha borgeson steering box unit?
I wish I could say for sure. If the Borgeson is the same size or smaller than a factory manual box, then I would say yes. I have not worked with a Borgeson unit yet.

Well, some closing thoughts on this thread. I never did reach full potential of the initial build. The Eagle heads that I used were used Ebag pieces. Had to replace four bent valves when I received them. The guides look fine when I replaced the valves. Obviously, I was wrong. The piece of guide that hangs down into the port snapped off on cylinder two. Two thirds of the guide stayed on the stem, the rest got smashed between head and piston. Smashed the **** out of the upper land. So, out that engine came and in went a 2012 Eagle with 6.4 cam and TTI headers that I had acquired for a score awhile ago. I did not lock the phaser, nor did I mess with any of the MDS. Installed the 08 tone ring on the crank and let 'er buck. **** it, just reused the fasteners. Roadkill style. It runs good enough, just not as fast as the other one. I messed with carb and timing and all kinds of **** to make that piss ant run. 12.90 is all it would muster. Car has been sitting about a year. To hell with it, ya know? So in the meantime, we've had this blown up 6.1 on a stand doing nothing. We fixed what needed fixing, and now we have a 1000 dollar 6.1 going in. We'll be using the Cascar intake and headers. We'll probably just put the 750DP on for now, may need bigger? We'll see.
