I guess the phrase "worth having" is a matter of perspective. To me a used up sub par 340 isn't worth having. I think the mopar R blocks can be had for $1000. For the most part most people just want the notoriety of saying they have a 340. $1000 for 22hp that's .2 in the quarter on the street you will never notice the difference. 340 doesn't have a longer life span when in use.

The 360's make a little less hp per second than a 318 so the difference there isn't as large as what some people would lead you to believe.

I'll take three of those R blocks for $1000 each.

Guess I didn't know R blocks jumped in price? But I did show you an example from 2018 $950 59* R block. So I believe if someone keeps searching sooner or later you will be able to pick one up for a $1000

But there can be a pretty good case made for the old mid to early 60's 383's that had the siamese block and closed chamber 516 heads that had the max wedge style ports only with smaller valves.
.
Please tell me where I can find more information on the 383 Siamese block.
I have never heard of such an animal.
I do know that Indy and mother Mopar had some Siamese cylinder Hemi and raise blocks. But as for a Siamese 383 block never heard of it.
I do know there were some raised block 383s back in the sixties but they're kind of rare.

318 is like the mail order bride, expecting a lot but not getting much plus it’s yours forever, never sell it might give it away. Like they say no bells and whistles.

Correct the chryslers used 383rb early on. If memory serves correct the 59-61 or 62 factory hi-po 383 dodge and plymouth are siamese blocks the dual quad versions. I had a engine guru friend that built engines for dealerships back in the 60's and 70's that clued me in. We had one in the junkyard but I had to have a 452 stroker . So we went through and found a good 400 block. And he bought/traded for that 383 block. Hard to find info on them. Most people just assume all 383 blocks are the same

Did you see the unicorn block too?

Prove me wrong.... you must miss your mail order unicorn bride
I’ll have to call my buddy who raced those 383-345 hp 62 Plymouth’s back in the early to mid 60s to see if he knows anything about those ‘siamese’ blocks. Did have one of those high block 383s but such an odd ball threw it on the junk pile, 413 much better block.

I had 1 car 413 and 3 RV 413 blocks, big differences. But still, in 1980 when I was deployed to Germany, no one wanted any of them. They went off to make 10 Celicas. Salvage yard still has the car 413 long block, $Unobtainum.

so,..if a fella bores a 318 block to 4.040 and builds it,..is it still junk???
back when i had a 71 cuda with a .030 over 318, J heads,0 decked, weiland intake, wolverine cam,904 small stall, peg leg rear of un known ratio built on a budget...and a 71 duster X block bored 4.080 with X heads, .508 purple cam, LD340 intake, 18 spline A833, 8 3/4 with 3:91 gears,....both run like raped apes! sure the duster was more raw and the cuda was more streetabile, i doubt there was .50 difference in 1/4 mile if thay was geared the same!

Bore a 318 .120 over? If my math is right. 318 is 3.92

but to some,..its still junk, not worth building!!!
One mans junk is another mans treasure. Personally I would spend the money on a stroked 360 IF I was running small block. I know it would be the same if the 318 was stroked and poked but the 360 would be easier since it’s already 4”. Only down side to the 360 is the big crank journals.(dummy Chrysler)

them bigger journals make a stronger crank!

Never heard of them myself. Hide not hair. Another myth like the 440 Hemi maybe.

Hensley Motorsports does them and they are far from junk.

Back in 1977 when I was stationed at Ft Ord Cali we had Dodge M880's with the 318. The maintenance Sgt was also a Mopar nut.

On a 4 day week end someone ripped into one and replaced the 318 cam with a 340 Auto cam. Someone else took the heads down to a shop and had 0.020" milled and then pocket ported them.

Fastest M880 on the base but it was hard to tell anything was different sound wise.
