1966 Factory V8 Valiant Signet Restoration For My Other Daughter

-
Drivers door is gutted... no photo as I was beating a storm... hopefully tomorrow Kylie and do the other side and I will take photos and document the correct sequence. Fascinating that the early A's did not change the door contents at all from '63 to '66 when later it seems like they thought they had a better window regulator every year....

I’m going to regret it but for this one I can order everything at once since I know were to get what I need. I’m tracking all the parts and total cost so everyone can really see what it takes to make one of those old girls better than new again. I’m afraid I will not like the answer as the other cars I made up what I thought I spent.

Gutted the RH door and documented everything for reassembly. Reverse the order shown here, vent window frame (leave the lower track bracket off to get the regulator in later), door handle/key cylinder, lock assy, inner door handle, regulator, glass, front track bracket (part of the vent frame). Got the rear right quarter gutted, will show how that was done on the left side in next weeks episode.

I can't wait till I do this because I've got all this great documentation that Jim did and I know I'll be able to do it he makes it look easy!

The regulator/windows in these are finger pinchers... wear gloves and long sleeves like I did not because Kylie is taller than I am and she has commandeered my coveralls.

Took a fair amount of Makers Mark Whiskey to push the Classic Industries button but I did... then a fly flew into my whisky and drown... really.....

WOW Jim Kilie I hope I spelled her name correctly is a daughter to be proud of for sure. Out of the five daughters & raised only two of them even know what a wrench or screw driver is. But look at your girl just working her buns off & enjoying it. Way to go young lady.

She was not happy when we started but once we got going she enjoyed it!

So if I don't get this painted by Thanksgiving I am done until April as it will be too cold in the garage to paint. If I did not have all that metal work in the back to finish I think there is a good change I could make it, but.... With all that work there is no way just working weekends so I am going to try to put in a few hours after work every day. I still think the odds are low but at least there is a chance I could get lucky.. We counted up the car shows coming in Sept/Oct and that will take 5 weeks of Saturdays or a full work week out of play...

Stripped the worst fender with the most hidden sins. I knew they existed as I could see them on the backside. The other fender is much better. This one is ready for the welder, hammer and dolly then the final sand blasting in the complex areas and it can get epoxied. If I can have both fenders epoxied by the end of this weekend I will be happy. Then next week will be the same plan for the doors. By then the summer rains should have ended and I can get busy on the rear metal work.

90 degree grinder, 60 minutes and Blackhawk disks are all you need to get here.

Wow, I've been missing out on a lot by not seeing this thread.

I'm impressed, truly impressed

Yes Jim I am still following the build. Wouldn't miss it. Your build is a lot more extensive even than when we off frame restored my 1939 Buick Century. Couldn't even start to buy after market parts for it. I'm glad Kylie is enjoying helping with the build. I found a $50.00 dollar gas cap you might like to have. It's even chrome. Let me know when you want to pick it up.

Few quality hours with the grinder and the Blackhawk blue abrasive disks and I am ready to fix some metal and sandblast to get ready for the epoxy primer. My high rise garage door kit came in too so one day this weekend will be getting it installed so I can stack two cars and get the Valiant in the garage... Not sure how long this dry spell is going to last.

What a day. But I finally have what I dreamed of when I bought the lift! Unbelievable that a lag had been in the water line for 18 years without a leak. The moment I stated to unscrew the lag a loud hiss from ceiling. I knew what it was. Emergency weekend plumber bill to splice the PEX and we were fixed.

The Valiant goes in the garage tomorrow!

The valiant emblem on the T shirt is 62 to 66 so you nailed it. I always assumed they used that emblem all through the 60s but it is not used in the late 60s

The 60 and 61 were the same emblem but instead of red and blue it was red and grey.

67 they ditched that emblem all the way around and replaced it with the plymouth rocket (so I call it, but I don't know the official designation)

The plymouth rocket appeared until the 71 model year and after that only the cursive "valiant" emblem was seen.

Oddly enough 63 had a "by plymouth" emblem on the tail gate or rear deck and no where else on the car does it say plymouth, so it wasn't a plymouth valiant, it's a Valiant by plymouth.
