So, I just tore apart a 273 to do a quick Hone and Re-Ring and discovered that
My Cam was installed with a Hammer...
The Coating is Chipping off and there are Chips on the edges from Mishandling and Wear.
Does anyone have a Loaner Bearing Installer that I could Borrow?
or, Know where to Source the Cam Bearings for an Early '65 273 2Bbl Non-Cmndo?
I'd Pay for any Shipping as well as A**hole Tax just for asking.
Any Help Is Appreciated, This is My Winter Project for a Spring Install
and it's already Waaayy-Over Budget as always...
Thanks fellow FABO Brethren!

Looks like the bearings weren't burnished after they were installed? I think that's what it's called? A lot of them need to be resized after installation.

WTH does That Mean? Machining the New Bearings???

I can't put my New Cam on those old bearings tho... So, the Saga continues

I meant on the cam. It is supriseing that the cam looked that good compared to the bearings. I wonder if the pieces were still in there till you pulled the cam out.

Hmmmn, could be...
I thought it was a Stock, Unmolested Motor until I pulled it apart. The Ring Gap's were All over the Map. Some Top Rings were .125-.140 end gap and 2nd Rings were smaller at .070-.090 end gaps... and the bashed up Cam Bearings... it was a Hillbilly Rebuild.
No Offense Triple R!

I pulled mine in with some allthread and some big *** washers. Worked great. If the cam doesn't slip in, mark the bearings with a crayon and look for high spots on the bearing. Find out why they are high and work 'em with a bearing scraper.

Yeah, it more than needs new cam bearings. lol
