Hey all, as you can likely tell I’m new to this web so apologies if this is in the wrong thread! So I just made a post on Reddit and was directed here. Gonna give you a long story short but you can find the entire thing here:

anyways, I found an old dart in one of my grandads old yards, turns out it’s a 340 swinger from 71. Now I thought that was weird since the only made em in 69 and 70, turns out there was a special edition in 71 and 72 made in Canada. Looked up some numbers, not sure how accurate, but I could be looking at 1 of 85 ever made. How accurate is this? Any help appreciated!

While you are waiting for a response, put "Swinger Special" in the search function in the upper right. There are quite a few threads about these cars.

Sure thing!
Whoops, gonna have to wait until I get back to my computer… my phone is being kind of funny. I guess now is a good time to mention that I only have photos of the body since the frame, suspension, engine and drivetrain are in the garage that I never went in… also the hood is a dual scoop and it has the 340 decal. I also don’t have photos of the registration

What part of the frame is in the garage? These are unibody cars.

Likely the k member, and yes there are a few members here that own these cars and have a pretty good knowledge of them. What little I know is that Crosstown Motors in Edmonton, Pembina dodge in Winnipeg, and a dealer in Saskatchewan whose name escapes me were the only 3 to have sold them new.

Well aware of all of that. I was just curious if the front frame rails were removed.

Ok current update on some info. The engine trans and suspension are in a garage somewhere in Manitoba, someone was gonna try and rebuild it but ultimately decided not too, it’s unknown wether those are factory parts or swaps or if the parts are even still there.

Some more Info about the car: it’s a 71, it has dual hood scoops, it is currently painted Chrysler r6 red but it was painted plum crazy or butterscotch from factory… I might take a trip out sometime next week or ask the guy some more about it but he says he honestly doesn’t know that much about it…

There’s a member on here that has a Canadian 71 340 car.

Good morning everyone, this is an update for posting some pictures of the car

In this photo you can see it has a 340 written on the tail, you may also notice the dart badge is gone, I believe it and the trim were removed for it to be repainted

these are both images of the hood front and back, as you can see the outline of the removed scoops and on the other side you can see that it was originally y1 yellow or plum crazy, I’m pretty sure the 1st layer is purple so it appears to have been purple from factory, then y1 yellow and now r6 red

there are two bumpers, the quad tail light is the original and the 70s bumper is from a donor car, the same with the gold door in the next picture

so in this photo you can only see 2 doors, the other one is under the trailer, but as you can see there is a donor door from a 70s dart, I assume the same one that the bumper came from.
So while I do really think this could be a rare 71 special there is a bit of doubt in my mind, the livery is on the layer of the red paint meaning it also could have been painted on, I believe that the 340 was custom painted onto the stock scat pack stripe that came with all 71 specials… anyway what do you guys think?

Btw… I think a lot of this stuff was kept in the shell which was in the garage… but some stuff was outside for longer than others

I should also add that all trim, removed parts (scoops) and badges are still there. You can also see the third door in the images of the bumper, it’s painted in a yellow and it’s really dusty.

You are correct about the "340" being painted on. The only way that you will know for certain that it is in fact an original 340 Swinger Special is by the VIN. The fifth character of the VIN will be the letter H. Any other letter would mean that it is not one of the rare 71 cars. Letter C is a slant 6 and G is 318.
Impossible to tell from the pictures at this point. Good luck and keep us posted.
