AR-15s

cant go wrong with a colt

keep in mind that if you are not ordering from a brick and mortar store you are going to have to get it shipped to one and will probably get hit with a FFL transfer fee

(unless of course you are a FFL holder, in which case i dont think you would be asking this question)

I wouldn’t pay that for an AR. Go look through Palmetto State Armory’s web site and see what you can find.

The Colt name adds to the price but nothing to function.

I own a gun shop and have sold many colts over the years, I own several myself, quality is good as well as dependability, the one you’re interested in is a flat top which allows you to run an optic if you like, pretty basic set up, there are hundreds of manufacturers of the AR platform you can spend a ton of money on, but the one you like will suit you fine

he could save 20 bucks right off the bat by getting that same one from PSA

Colt LE Carbine 5.56x45mm AR-15 Rifle | Black | Palmetto State Armory

thats almost have a magazines worth of ammo

i have bought guns from PSA before, BUT i have also found certain guns for cheaper locally
(not cheaper then PSAs sticker, but cheaper once you figure FFL transfers in)

thx, it's gonna end up a little over $1100 to get it under my pillow. I believe it's one of the last true Colts, since they sold to CZ. I'll look at PSA tho for sure. Just ordered a big box of Lake City M855.

what did you end up paying per round for the M855s?

and just curious, do you allready have a 5.56 or a .223 or did you put the cart in front of the horse here?

Again, I won’t pay for the Colt name. He could pay a little more than half the cost of the Colt and have just as good a weapon.

Cart before the horse.
They are roving gangs on crime sprees in the city right now. So it's a given purchase...today.
$399 to my door for 600 rds, Miwall Corp.

thats a decent price, in todays market

i hear ya about the crimes, to quote one of our members "if im wearing pants, in carrying"

Nice piece. The 1/7 twist means you can use long for caliber bullets like Barnes and some others so you have better terminal ballistics under 400 yards.

If you are looking at distances over 400 yards than you can use heavier bullets.

I need to look through my notes. Several years ago I was rolling my own and testing velocities with heavy and long for caliber bullets. I think at that time I didn’t have anything tighter than a 1/9 twist though.

I don't want this thread to goto N&P. But if it has to so be it. Just stating facts, the latest crime was yesterday, 6 armed punks in 2 cars pull up outside a lady's house, take baseball bats to her car and steal her catalytic converter. WTF. All I can say is if you hate your kids, move to Albququerque.

That'll do what you want for sure. I would order a couple mags on top. I run a Palmetto barrel on my AR pistol with zero issues so far.
It's done.
With the savings, my ammo and spare magazines ended up free.
Oddly, my Chase Freedom card wouldn't work. THen tried my Amazon Prime card with success. Reminded me how easy it would be to stop certain types of sales.

I can personally attest that Colt's quality is beyond that of PSA. It's not just a name.
If you want a plinker, go cheap.
If you may ever want to trust your life on it - don't go cheap.

Look into the other brands available on the market. Colt's are good but limited to few options. The aftermarket tends to give you a much wider choice and you can talk to some of them just like you would talk to an engine builder, and tell them what you are looking to do. They can recommend the right barrel, caliber combinations.
Personally Mine are chambered in .223 Wilde.
This chamber safely shoots any 5.56 or .223 ammunition out there.
Not everyone is aware of the pressure differences in the 2 calibers.
Physically they are the same but the loadings are different between commercial loaded .223 and the Military 5.56 loading.
You can safely shoot .223 in a 5.56 chamber, but 5.56 in a .223 chamber has a much higher pressure. Not recommended.
.223 vs 5.56 NATO vs .223 Wylde: Will Your Gun Blow?

The good thing with Colt is that you know what you're getting. They're kind of 'the bar', even if not so much these days.
Lots of brands are better, but many more are worse.

PSA will sell you someone else's rejects and then tell you that your problems are 'normal'. Good enough for hobby guns no doubt, but not for anything serious.

I didn’t look that close, but isn’t the PSA built to mil-spec? I think it is.

Go out and put all the junk ammo you can find through it and see what it won’t eat. I think it will shoot anything you can load into it.

I don’t shoot steel cased ammo because I reload and you can’t reload that crap. Just know that if you reload and don’t buy a bunch of it just to try.

Contrary to the US Army, the AR platform will run dirty. It just won’t run dry. The lube can be running off of it and it will function normally. Even crusty dirty. If it gets dry you’ll have issues.

I’ve proven this out many times going to the range with guys who think 5 drops of oil will lube an AR. Keep it wet and it’s happy.

Nope. Some parts are close.
But nope. They advertise it as such, but it's a marketing term and not reality.
The MIL drawings are very specific and few places actually adhere to them. Much like aftermarket car parts - they look like the OEM stuff, yet suck in comparison.
"Close enough" gets thrown around so much it's a joke in the industry. Then guns gack and the manufacturer just shrugs their shoulders "should have been fine".

I just looked. It’s mil-spec. You’ll be fine.

The affiliate link to PSA is an actual Colt - I didn't see that before. A colt will be fine, and they stand behind their product. PSA stuff is for those who want to build a bunch of guns they'll rarely shoot. There's a place for them, but they're not 'identical' by any measure.
