AR-15s

I would never be able to give a Malinois the time, attention, discipline, and energy they demand. I'll just watch videos of them.:D

I understand. I made my living with them since 2007. Along with a rifle and a 1911. This is a gun thread….

Well like Mike, I also shoot two or three times a week, again like Mike my “gun room” is trashed presently but this little slice Photo shows you how I can. Lord knows you can’t buy ammo. If somebody starts a “shooters forum” tab on here I would darn sure participate. I am already an admin on another private gun bunny site so I want no part of that! Hah! You want a thankless gig be an admin for a website that has bunch of hard headed opinionated folks! Hah! But I would certainly be willing to share most anything I know for QnA type stuff. Being a blue line family there are topics I simply will not comment on but for most part I can participate.

You're right of course...sorry for the diversion!

I have a couple of yet-to-be-machined lowers. Are there any manufacturer's uppers I should avoid? Whatever I build will be a Sporter/plinker. Websites or manuals you can recommend? Thanks in advance.

Avoid Bear Creek stuff. For a budget upper I’d go with Del Tron or PSA if you want to buy it complete.

In over 35 years of shooting, messing with, building and modifications to ARs and M16s the gun has gone Gucci. None of mine have anything but a military looking upper and lower. I could do without all the forward assists as they were a mistake in the first place.

I have Colt uppers, PSA uppers and DPMS uppers. No issues with any. Just make sure that if the upper has M4 ramps the barrel extension on the barrel you choose is an M4 extension.

So much confusion and misinformation about the system, “mil-spec”, the TDP, overgassing etc. Buy a quality pressure tested and MPed bolt, good carrier with chrome lined “cylinder”. The barrel you like for your purpose and accuracy expectations, and life. Round count is not what destroys barrels. Its heat. Shot out barrels in 8-10k and have others at 30k still good headspace and 1 moa.

A bit about PSA. They have like three tiers of parts. The premium line are FN made. There uppers and lowers were. Not sure now. The FN hammer forged chrome lined barrels are great. And better than the Colts for accuracy on the Commandos we had at work.

could go on and on and on….what is the rifle’s purpose to be?

Did you mean complete upper assembly? Or an upper receiver?

My purpose with a homebuilt is just short-range (50 yds) casual target practice and maybe pop the occasional armadillo pest. I have other firearms for feral pigs and feral dogs. I have other firearms when travelling or hiking.

I have already sent the skinny pix to one of my buddies who runs a Mal. He is quite sensitive about it! Kind of like when somebody calls my Demon a Duster! Now back to guns, with summer coming on, my wife wants to quit carrying her 45 and swap to a 9, female clothing requirements are much different than ours. So anyway she wants to go to the range tomorrow morning and work out the kinks with a SIG 365xl. She is ready to summer gun!

Its nearly always summer gun here. Usually a 9mm Officers model and a Colt Pony. If and when a coat can be worn it would be a 4 or 5” 1911 and the Pony.

We only have a couple of weeks of summer up here! I cannot tell you the crap I take from my Team for being a 1911 advocate. They wear me out! The final straw for them I took a Kimber 1911 and put a Marvel top on it and competed in the rimfire! I did however work with Nighthawk and design one as a retirement gift to myself! Just had to add the Guacamole pix, cause you know……

Full disclosure, should any of you be able to find your way to North West Arkansas in September I am hosting Nighthawk at our training facility for a “demo day” They bring over a dozen or so models and folks get to shoot them. There is nothing in the world like it, should you ever get a chance to shoot a Nighthawk hand built pistol, do it! Open invite to all y’all.

That sounds great. I've never seen or held a nighthawk. I'd love to shoot one.

Mounted to upper rail

If you have one ring mounted on the rail on top of the receiver and one mounted to the hand guard then you will be fighting your zero non stop. Those two pieces are separate and will move around.

It is like a Wilson only better, and there darn sure ain’t nuthin wrong with a Wilson!
The "nicest" 1911 I've ever held was an ed brown. I didn't get to shoot it unfortunately but the fit and finish was amazing on it. The highest end 1911 I've ever shot was a kimber and while it functioned flawlessly I was not impressed with it giving the price range.

I have 1200 flawless round through a Coonan 1911 clone chambered in 357. I am heavy into the 357. Got a handfull of S&W chambered in it too. Need a rifle chambered in it.

A 357 max in a rifle would be alot of fun. It's a very impressive caliber.

Back in the fall I built a 350 legend on a AR. I haven't got to shoot it yet because I haven't found any ammo for it yet lol
