I've handled a few hundred of them though. They're neat, but not shooter's and the production had tons of issues. They tended to weld up cracks in casting, every other gun had new revisions of parts, and all were hand assembled and polished by Tom prior to shipping just to make them work (if they did!)
Lots of tool room guns got out too though, not to mention the LaFrance guns and parts.

It's a neat design though and they literally invented 10mm. Too bad it turned out Cooper was broke, but D&D didn't find that out until after they'd made all the changes he wanted to see... Ouch.

They were a hot mess back then for sure, but they had a virtually cult like following.

Oh, for sure. Still lots of a following. Seen several dressed up ones on gunbroker go for stupid money this past year. I guess having them built and polished by a trophy shop makes them worth their weight in gold, hahaha.

Oh I know haha. I don’t own one but a lot of guys love them. I almost grabbed one for bear protection last fall.

First design was a tilt to side breech. Designer and Mfg was French. Looks like it was a patent workaround, but super cool.
At one point someone used the concept but hid two extra shells under the breech. 4 shot repeating sxs!

This is a family gun and one that I want to have restored. Just can’t seem to find a Darne specialist anywhere near me.

This is cool im glad to see this thread. I enjoy doing amateur gunsmithing. I enjoy working on them just as much as I do shooting them. Kinda like I ke cars I suppose I spend more time working in them than driving them lol here are a few samples of guns I've built thru the years. The first is a Spanish mauser I bought as just a bare action and built my self every part dang near on this gun has been modified or altered. It is chambered in 450 bushmaster.

The stock is custom molded around my hand. Then finish shaped and smoothed. Literally you can only hold the pistol one way every single time. Thereby maintaining exact same grip every time. When I switched to that grip I picked up and average of nine points per match aggregate. The key in competitive shooting is being ruthlessly repetitive.
