My rock n the pond...

How many morons buy studs for fear of stock bolt failure who have never had one fail to begin with to back up that fear.
Stupid waste of money till pushing big boy compression/full time drag car with alloy and funny gas etc.

I've always wondered how other peoples stuff costs so much... well it's not just the amount of work I do myself... it's that I dont spend on bells n whistles insurance policies for every potential/feared part failure.

I hope no one agrees.

This debate has gotten mean and scary, so I'm going to go to a kinder gentler pushrod oiling setup like the Chevy boys and put on my skinny jeans and use whatever bathroom I identify with that day LOL come on who needs a hug?

He should ask his son. Maybe they use 271 loc-tite. Lol
There was no reason to chime in with this remark but to stir a pot you thought was brewing. Why else would you chime in with that sarcastic remark. You knew what you were doing . That is why I said your true colors show. Your not the person I thought you were and as far a I'm concerned I won't read or look at another one of your threads. No skin off my back. I would expect you to do the same. I don't need any advise from you at all. Thanks Neighbor.

Can we start a “go fund me” to get this poor guy a therapy dog and a soft pillow. I hurt his feelings. What a cupcake you are.

Well let me enlighten you due to stupidity. We were just waiting for the chance to reply sitting here at the shop. Laughing

I couldn't wait until you asked

Richard Cranium ? Richard= Dick. Cranium= Head,,, AKA "Dick head"

Here is the definition of a good friend.

A " Friend" a person that goes out and gets a ******** comes back and tells me about it

B " Good Friend" A person that goes out and gets two blow jobs and comes back and give me one.

I am telling you I am laughing my *** off at you. If I were you I would take my toys and go home. If you can't have fun then don't come to my house and play. LOL
I actually AM having fun, it's easy to get you going and then just expose your true colors!

Oh I like that . it sounds like a right cross to the mouth in this conversation!

Not intentionally.

There's been lots of theoretical talk, but numbers make it real. Grain structures, surface hardness, metal treatments - they all matter when developing a system. But every system has some tolerance built in it.

A 1/2 head bolt can generate ~13k lbs of clamp load at 80lbs torque, lubed (120lbs dry). That 13k lbs equates to about 92ksi of tensile stress in the shaft of the bolt. ARP advertises 180ksi min strength for most of their fasteners, and as high as 220ksi.

That means in most cases, head studs are probably barely over 1/2 their design strength. Arguing over taking 2.5% away from their 200% FoS (factor of safety) is picking fly poop from the pepper.

ARP2000 is advertised as a superior material to 8740 CrMo steel. 8740 is a through hardening alloy, not a case hardening alloy. High alloy steels are often designed to provide ductility (bend before fracture) at extremely high stress levels. This means that though the material grain condition is important, the 'skin' of the material isn't. A cross-cut or spiral cut along the length might cause a problem, but a single axis-parallel groove or flat isn't.

Right from the start of the thread I stated there are several ways engine builders get oil to the rockers that work. I am not telling anyone their method is wrong at all. I was just trying to give info on what was done on my engine originally when built and it worked . This stud work was then used on several engines after that by different shops.

If you have an Idea and you try it and it works that's great . Now if I told members I did this yesterday and asked what do you think the results would be . I would expect some members with questions of reliability. But This was done in 2009 and has seen abuse you could not imagine.

I have just put Tons of money out again to raise the HP of this engine again. I will use those studs over without a worry in the world.

I was just trying to make light of the subject matter where it seems opinions and hypothesis were aggressively challenging the integrity of the suggested method of valve train oiling in the op. I found your post very factual and okay a little impressive. Thanks

I have a dog and a pillow. as far as Cupcakes I ate to many already, I could use the money from the go fund me. But from what I recall didn't you rip off the last go fund me you started to get your junk to the track.

I can dish out as much as I take in. And laugh all day. You really don't know me and probably never will. But That's a good thing for me. Your not worth it. I had you pictured different. Live and learn is what they say. I gotta go my dog took my pillow and I need to check the mail for money.

Straight up... this was nothing but an affirmation thread, period.
There was a previous posting in another thread and he didn't like the reaction by some others that hurt his resolve...so this happens.

Fin.

I personally think all slant sixes were painted yellow with pink flowers from the factory. I am sticking to that and if you show me a blue or red one your wrong . I had one yellow engine with flowers so that is the way they must have came. LOL Steve

So people do some stuff different. So what? We've ALL seen his videos of that orange Duster and it hauled the mail. I don't know if that particular motor had the modified stud, and I don't give a chit. It was a bad **** and faster than a lot of stuff on here, so they're doin somethin right. I was sorry to see it get wrecked. With all Steve's health problems, I'm glad he's able to do anything at all with the hobby. So maybe he's tootin his horn a little. I guess if my son had gotten heavy into machine work, instead of layin around on the other side of the country playin video games and losin jobs, I'd be pretty proud too. That's why he's not around here anymore. No drive, no ambition no nuthin. We don't do things the same. So what. What they're doin works for them and Steve's on here showin all of us how to do it if we want to do the same thing. You cannot deny he makes some good points about the holes and studs possibly not being concentric. So they found a way around it. Necessary? Maybe not. Good insurance? I say hell yeah. Don't like it? Then don't do it.

I know, If you click on my threads there is never a dull moment. Its like watching a peaceful protest on the west coast. There's always a fire going in the background. But it does enhance the ratings on the site. Joey should require a gold membership to visit my threads. But would I get a %?

My wife just asked me what the hell I am laughing at.

I didn't answer. Your not going to believe what she said. "You Must Be Losing It" You just can't make this stuff up.

I think that's a pretty fair statement. Have you ever seen a broken factory head bolt? I have, but not on a Mopar. I think with what Steve and his son are doin though, studs are a good idea.

Agree with the sentiments about factory fasteners. They are top quality & there would be a lot of engines with ARP [ $$$ ] bolts/studs in them that add nothing.
Of course, like any fastener if it is abused/overloaded it can & will fail...

1st Don't give up on your son
2nd I hope he never reads this.. its pretty embarrassing for him to tell everyone that you think your sons a failure. Not everyone is going to be a spitting image or a continuation of the things dads into. We can hope... cause it sure would make it easier to RAISE THEM:poke:...right?
