Pain Medication

-
A guy T-Boned me at an intersection in the early 80's, got a few broken ribs but didn't realize how bad it messed my back up till weeks later, after many MRI's they couldn't find anything, but they knew something was wrong. I've been on every drug under the sun, I worked off and on as much as I could and finally after seven years, I got My Disability and found a good back surgeon who became a pain management Doctor, he gave me shots in the RIGHT places which helped but I was still on the meds that I wanted to get off of, so he started telling me about an implanted pain stimulator, I finally got it in 2019 and am doing better, no more pain meds, The Stimulator helps with everyday life but if I push it to hard the pain gets bad but instead of being down for a week or two I'm only down for a couple of days. It's the best decision I've ever made.
I think @inkjunkie has one of those. He has gone through God awful back issues as I remember. No more Opioids

Glad you found a good doctor and was able to get you relief. Why did it take so long for you to get your disability?

You know I could never get a straight answer, it was always "not enough information" my file was over a foot thick, my advocate told me it was because of my age, I wasn't 60 and I had no surgeries, even though three surgeons said surgery would not help in my case. finally, the last Judge I saw passed away, before he did, he told the Judge taking over my case to grant me my disability, God rest his soul.

Before mine was put in I wore a temporary one with just the wires stuck in my spine for two weeks to see if it would help.

Wow, I didn't have any surgeries, but I had a good paper trail and several doctors. I was 54 years old when I filed for disability and without a lawyer and I got my disability in 6 months. I think that you have a better chance of getting disability faster without a lawyer.

I'm glad you got yours so soon, but in the long run it was worth the wait, my girlfriend owned her home, we had old cars that were paid off and enough money to live on after bills. They paid me from the day I applied, seven years of back pay was pretty damn nice. I still have a nice chunk of that money put away for a rainy day! I think they only go back three years now.

Glad it worked out. I heard that they don't do back pay at all anymore. If I remember correctly I only got 4 months back pay. This year they are talking a 8.7% increase

I'm glad that you was in good enough shape that the wait didn't hurt you financially wise, but if you hadn't been, you could have been in trouble. Lawyer's drag it out longer because the more you get the more they get. A friend of mine just recently filed for his disability and they told him that social security doesn't do back pay anymore.

Dan, it's a done deal. If you have an online account, you should be able to log in and see your new benefit amount. Mine is up a nice amount starting in January, I believe.

My SS Advocate only got a Lawyer involved toward the end and it was funny, he had to give me $5000 because he charged too much? I didn't ask any questions, just put it in the bank!

That doesn't happen often.

That's good. I just took what I'm getting now and time's it by 8.7 and it's sweet, also Medicare is suppose to go down 5 bucks.

That's awesome. I think that they get 33% of your back pay but I'm not sure

I didn’t even ask for disability through my doctors at all, and I was told I’d qualify for $3500 a month. I told them I can’t quit I couldn’t afford to.

Yeah, it's been a long time since I've worked and I shure do miss it.
Was making a hell of a lot more money than I am now

I didn't go through my doctor either. $3500, I thought that the tops was 2500

I’m pushing myself to go, I’d go nuts not working.

I was in the military, it wasn’t from the military though.

I miss working too, but there's no way I can work. A 25# weight lifting limit, can't stand or sit for long periods of time.

My income dropped by half since I had to go on disability, but I'm grateful for the amount I do get. But with no house payments and we have 2 late model vehicle's that are paid off. I'm thankful for what I do have, I'm blessed.

I pushed myself as long as I could, I built custom cabinets and furniture, too much bending, lifting and crawling inside the cabinets, even with all the meds I was on I just had to say no more. I still do small projects every now and then for some pocket money.

Sounds like a good job and good money

It was, let's just say I had plenty of pocket money. Sad thing was the fellow I worked with died a year later from lung cancer, I knew him since the early 70's, His son tried to take over, I helped him as much as I could, but he just couldn't do it. He couldn't find anyone dependable that wanted to work.
