1969 dart

I don't know what is involved in fixing the headliner, I don't know if it's a major job or not. Okay, I'll let the cat out of the bag I was going to use the headliner and the wrong seat covers as a bargaining tool, guess that I had a bad idea

You're joking right?

Seriously, you have to be kidding. There's literally not a single picture of the ENTIRE trunk inside or out, it's got some weird alternator, one of the exhaust pipes is welded together in 6" sections, half the hoses and wiring in the engine compartment are over sprayed white, which means it has a cheap, WHITE, paint job. And with all of those things clearly pictured, you're worried about the headliner, which is better than 99% of headliners out there. And, oh, right, the headliner literally has no effect on how the car starts, stops, or steers, all of which should be higher on the list than the headliner, because who cares?

I mean, if I was in the market for an A-body and I liked '69 Darts I would absolutely drive less than an hour to go look at it, because all that stuff might be fine and if it is then the price isn't outrageous. Especially if all the stuff not pictured is actually as solid as what is pictured. And even if it turns out not to be your cup of tea, you've looked at another A-body in person so you have something to compare the next one you look at to.

But if you looked at all those pictures and thought the headliner was the bargaining chip, you should take up needlepoint. The classic car thing is not for you.

Finally at last, someone else seen some of the under hood screw ups

Right, so now you're gonna pretend the headliner you were trying to blame on your wife wasn't what you were worried about. Anyone that was really considering that car would have asked the other questions first, you're not fooling anyone.

Fine. But you know what? That still could be a great car! Again, I'd absolutely want to see it in person to make sure it wasn't a total bondo bucket given the white re-spray. But the few pictures of the bottom look very rust free, which is way more important than some of the other stuff.

But seriously, let's face it. If this car is less than an hour from you and you were asking someone else to go look at it, you've got no intention of actually buying anything. You're just wasting all of our time.

It has a GM alternator on it, the wiring on the ballast resistor doesn't look right. I seen some body work on the front left inner fender. When I asked if anyone would take a look at the photos and let me know what they saw I thought for sure that someone would have noticed what I mentioned. Was it wrong for me to play dumb, probably so. I asked for advice and opinions on it and pretty much everybody was asking me why I hadn't bought it yet. I brought the photos in close and I don't think that it's worth the asking price. The over spray makes me think what type of body work has been done on it. And also it's a 273, another strike against it

I'm going to go look at it, I owe that much to myself. But I don't think that it will be a car to buy as he doesn't have a lot of room to work with. I've already talked to him I've known him for a couple of years now. He bought it sight unseen and I'm thinking that he probably paid to much for it

There it is! More lies, more BS. Here's the thing, if you actually saw the alternator that's an easy post. "hey guys, what about the alternator"? See, easy. Someone chimes in "yeah, it looks like a GM alternator or whatever" and then you say "well gosh, it's not 100% stock and clearly it can't work like that so I'm not gonna buy it even though it probably works just fine and would cost a tiny fraction of this big stack of cash I say I have in my pocket to fix". But instead, you say, "but my wife won't like the loose headliner". No self respecting car guy is worried about that headliner. There's literally a THOUSAND things on that car that would be on my list first.

You're just a tire kicker. Always. If you had the money or the desire you'd have already bought a car. You're just a troll, posting garbage and wasting people's time.

Enjoy the New Year on my ignore list!

Headliner? Ripped a perfect factory headliner out of my 67 fastback because the stitching rotted and the liner was falling on my head. lol
I cleaned and prepped the roof and treated it with black rust primer, it's been that way for 15 years.
It will probably stay that way as it grew on me and doesn't look bad at all. Who the hell looks up anyway. lol
Headliner. lol

Still talking about getting a classic after all these years, only a few guys from high school still have their car, I'm one.
Dan, you're a little late and still talking about it, just like you did all through high school.
I knew many like you, the few I still see 40 years later, never got a car and never will.

All this waste of energy running around in circles chasing a pipe dream. These 50 year old crap cans all need work daily. Just like a boat, bust out another thousand…

Go buy a BMW 320 something and have good power to weight ratio, power steering and brakes, good suspension, a nice head liner, room for the wife to hold your balls while driving, won’t break down on the side of the road, won’t have to work on and throw your back out… and finely won’t have to ask a million and a half circle jerk questions…

Yes, but I think this shows value. They are out there. IF you want them.

If I needed another hole in the head I would consider this for sure.

The Dart in Post #2 is what I’d be looking at.
The Dart in question is too plain Jane for me.

Here is another for OP to pick apart, yes the exhaust hangers look like garbage and appears to have the wrong seats 1969 Dodge Dart

If it were me, I'd buy the car. Eventually the wife will forgive and forget

It's because I put my family first and not myself. I've known plenty of guys who have gotten their cars late in life because now the kids are all grown and on their own. Some people have different priorities and providing for my family was first and foremost. I've seen guys that have several cars and a awesome garage and they live in a dump.

Wait, wait, wait.

This is really the car? https://www.championclassicsllc.com/details/used-1969-dodge-dart/89666493

The headliner is loose? This headliner?

The ripple in the headliner at the sail panel is what you're worried about? Or the slightly faded charcoal insert in the non-stock seat cover that otherwise appears in good condition?

Good grief man. If those are your hang ups on this car, just stop. I'm serious. After looking at all the pictures on the Champion Classics website, if those are the things you're really worried about, there is literally no hope for you. None. I'm not saying there aren't things to consider with this car, or things I would want to take a closer look at if I was considering it, but those ain't them.

And if this car is less than an hour from you, in your price range and a body style you'd consider and you didn't immediately get in your car to see it in person, again, just stop.
I thought the same thing .I thought I clicked on the wrong thread .It looks like a pretty nice car for $20 K but what do I know $190,000 won't even buy a lot to build a house on up here in Ontario

You know, we're coming up on a new year and I've decided that I'm going to work on being easier to get along with and not repeating questions. I'm willing to let the whole issue go. I'd rather get along with everyone than bicker over things that don't mean a hill of beans

I hope you do have him in your ignore list! He’s fishing for peeps to give him (negative) attention and you’ve invested a bit of time with your logical responses. Best to not keep feeding it to him since he knows exactly what he’s doing. When he’s ready to buy a classic he will. Us just educating him on things he already knows is a waste of our time.
