I miss Sears!
I was needing a tool the other day, and I got to thinking that if Sears was still open, I could have gone there. Then I got a bit nostalgic and started thinking about how much I liked Sears. There was always a great ad in Sunday's paper that had a little bit of everything on sale (specially tools). If they were out of something on sale, they would often upgrade me to the next best item. They had very decent clothing and shoe sections, furniture, mattresses, tools, hardware, a good paint section, and OF COURSE Kenmore appliances and a great tire and car service area. Our Sears had a small cafe where you could get sandwiches, burgers, fries, etc. Plus, I always got good customer service there. The few times I did have a problem, I was always well taken care of.
I miss Sears!

It's kind of odd that Sears became what they were as a result of mail order and they succumed to the pressures of mail order businesses......

We have 2 refrigerator's from Sears, one is over 30 years old and the other is around 20 years old. They had good stuff

The one we had in downtown Asheville when I was a kid had a candy counter. They had any kind of nut, like peanuts, cashews, walnuts, pecans and also had both kinds of M&M's, orange slices, and all kinds of stuff. It was 10 cents a pound. There was an older gentleman who usually worked it, and he always gave me extra because I answered his questions with Yes Sir or No Sir. The good ol days for sure!

We bought our washer and dryer, microwave there 15 years ago, no problems. Lowe's sells craftsman tools

I really miss central hardware. Their commercial said everything from scoops to nuts and they were not kidding. The hardware stores today are okay

Blame Sears CEO Eddie Lampert, the Goldman Sachs reject that ruined the Sears corporation.
Funny the guy merged Kmart and Sears in 2005 and now they are both about gone.

Sears dot com is still alive and kickin

I miss them too even though they played me dirty.

I applied for the auto shop, I was in the beginning of my auto school days. They called me for an interview and offered me baby apperal. BURN.

So I said no, I want to work on cars so I said how about tool territory. They said they can get me in but in jewlery.

So I started in jewlery (hated it) and it took two months of being persistent and I finally got to tool territory.

I worked there for almost two years, and although I tried I never made it to the tire shop.

I enjoyed the employee discount which was one of the main points of working there. I bought two big roller toolboxes and filled my garage in those days. That was when I was a kid, like some of 05 all of 2006 and some of 2007.

I remember you could order exactly what you wanted online.
Then you printed your receipt.
I would stop on my way home the next day.
You entered a secondary door, you know, off to the side so you didn’t have to mingle with the shoplifters.
You scanned your receipt and a clock started to roll.
Most time I had my merchandise in less than 5 minutes.

They were convenient and Walmart is kind of the new Sears minus the better brands and appliances. If I feel nostalgic for Sears I just go in my garage. My cabinets, work bench, vise, air compressor etc. are USA Craftsman as is the majority of my tools and even my garage floor is Sears Craftsman racedeck style I got when the local Sears went out of business.

Not true. Sears has everything available online for mail order. they have for years.

I heard that sears is doing good in California, but I know that for a fact. And when a company fires a CEO they pay them millions. I believe that CEOs and other over paid management should have their pay strictly based on how the company does. Also they should have to take 401k plan like the rest of the employees and not get outrageous bonuses, bonuses should be for all of the employees not just the ones who make stupid decisions

LOL The guy I'm talking about actually bought the skeleton of Sears in 2019.

That's the problem, online. If they can have it online then they should have it in stores too. I think that online sales should be taxable and have to pay shipping costs just like the people who shop in the stores. Online sales have hurt the box stores. It's not all about convenience, some of it is laziness

I'm sorry if I came off triggered, but I am.
Sorry OP.
I miss our Sears department store and the Hometown store they replaced it with.
It seems the Hometown Stores really weren't controlled by the independent owner.

I miss Sears and my sister misses her pension.
Did they give her a lump sum payment when they closed the doors? My father in law worked at the warehouse and they were giving a lump sum. I think that ALL management personnel should have to take the same pay cuts and a 401k as the folks on the floor. Bonuses should be for every employee not just management. They all talk team work bs till it's time for the rewards

Pennies on the dollar. My sis worked for Sears from the age of 16 and worked her way up to management.
She was 52 when she got the screw.

Screw sears... Only place I've ever been fired from. I only wish they were gone sooner. 14 years worked there between 2 locations
I do miss what they were once upon a time, like when I was a little kid and went in with my dad

"Sears Has Everything"
Along with houses, Sears sold boats. My '67 Gullwing was a Sears sale.

That's wrong. My father in law was union. Management is not always what it's made up to be.
