For all you guys running HP manifolds on their 340, wanted to know which of two filters to buy. The HP manifold and head pipe clearance is why I'm asking this question. Do not have head pipes to help me make the decision. May be a stupid question but here goes. 1968 340 application states Wix 51515. Application for 1970 states Wix 51068 which I believe is a tad shorter. HP manifolds were made for both years so why the change. If anyone can direct me in which direction I need to clock the filter, would be appreciative as well.

Maybe check into a 90 degree oil filter adapter......
Thanks but have one. Just looking for guidance with oil filter application and clocking of 90 degree adapter. This is going to happen long before I purchase exhaust. Engine will be started initially with headers but HP manifolds installed later.

A shorter filter will be easier to install. I use the full length one and space is tight.
I might figure out a way to measure the angle, but for now Dicer's sounds pretty good.

Jaw Bone she looks to be a nice ride, you'll have a mighty fine car when you get finished. I do use the WIX 51515 filter, no issues.

The 90° adapter goes straight rearward with about a 10° tilt downward.

Figure a little less, as the base of the angle finder is sitting on the rim of the filter.

*Edit - the rim of the filter is worth two degrees. So about 16-17 degrees downward in my '68 Barracuda.

There is a casting line on the block to line up the upright on the 90 degree adapter to. That is the position for the adapter.

There are shorter, and smaller diameter wix filters than the standard 51515 and 51068 too. You just might need to change them more often, due to less filtering material.
I can get you the other numbers if you want.

Thanks for the offer but I only have a standard oil pan so would like to see 5 qts in the engine though the more I think about it, it would not matter. Had issues with Milidon and their oil pickup. It was too high off the bottom of oil pan. Got it corrected but took some time. Think everyone should check for this.

51348: 2.2 teacup. Smaller diameter, 1" shorter than 51068
51335: omni glhs, shortest, half as long as a 51515.
51085: 1/2" shorter than 51068
Then there's.......
51773: diesel, 1 1/2 times as long as 51515, quart and a half capacity.

These are wix numbers, for a Napa number, delete the front five.

I have a disbeliever. Do you have an opinion regarding use of shorter oil filter?
Oops, sorry I missed. Meant to hit agree. Fixed.

Yes, my opinion is that unless you are going for extended oil change intervals, the small amount of filter capacity lost to the smaller filter is insignificant. So are the few ounces less in sump capacity.
