Stop in for a cup of coffee

So just got home. We had one of our renters call in with a bad microwave. The crew Jodi uses for rental property maint dropped the ball so guess who got to pick it up? Yep. Bunch of Hispanics in the house I am guessing two separate families with two generations on one side and three on the other. They were chattering away while we put in new over stove microwave, had no idea I am basically fluent in Spanish! When we left I thanked the old man as the Patron and we got to chattering about the roof. He used to be a roofer. Our renter explained they were “visiting” from New York when we got there this evening. When we left and I addressed the Patron you could have heard a pin drop! It was classic, and a lot of fun! I found a bunch of tequila bottles above microwave in the vent cubby. He explained they were for decoration, now that is some creativity right there! Hah!

When I had the street crimes unit, we do a drug raid put all the Hispanics out on the living room couch. I had a dumb looking white guy who grew living in Central America a few teenage years with his missionary parents. As they sat there the gang would start chattering about who hid drugs where. He just stood there with a smile on his face. I'd send someone in to replace him and he'd come out and tell us where everything was hidden. It took them a few months to catch on.

Flipped the linkage inbound... gives a much straighter line.

Unsure about throttle connecting point. Is the pin through the bushing properly?

I used to know basic street police Spanish and ask:
Where do you live?
Are these your drugs?
Is this your gun?
Put your hands up?
They usually understood English and just played dumb. When I say just take them out and shoot 'em, they always seemed to amazingly understand what I was saying and cooperate a little better.

So I walk into this Riverside Cafe about 3 weeks ago. This Vietnamese man starts talking to me in English and asked me to sit with him. Very nice guy .This guy looks older than me, but he's actually two years younger. Lives in Idaho and had been working there for 30 years. Came back to Vinh Long just to visit for a couple of months. Anyhow, I met him almost each morning at that cafe just to shoot the bull. Last night, Sunday night there's a large boat that goes out and has beer and food on board. Only goes out for a couple of hours. So I met him last night and we went out and drank a dozen beers together. Met him again this morning for coffee as today he is headed up to Saigon to catch a plane back to America. Hope I see him again when I'm back here in Vinh Long next time

Why? I wear that shirt in honor of my late father who was here in Vietnam at Nha Trang in the US Air Force 1968-1969 supporting all of the MACV-SOG Teams working across the fence if you will. R.I.P. Dad. Still miss you.....

Dad was the RO on the C-130 blackbirds. The ones with the nose talons. They were also painted black and green and unmarked as American as they spent a lot of time across the fence. He was only retired from the Air Force for 15 years when cancer took him due to the exposure of agent Orange while in Vietnam. Died at age 56.
