1968 Dart Convertible speaker ideas.

I'm looking for ideas on speakers and placement areas some have used in their Ragtops. I stole this pic of the web. Has anyone mounted speakers where the arrow is. With the door closed the speaker would get sound to the back seat area and if so, what speaker did you use.. I really cringe at cutting up my door cards and would like some other ideas. I used some Bose cube speakers currently but they are 8 ohm. really want 4 olm speakers. TIA

If you put speakers in the doors you risk interfering with the window rolling down, shallow speakers and spacer rings can help but honestly, not a great location... Your dart has vent wings so the area below that doesn't cause problems... Kick panels are shallow but I've seen replacement panels with a protrusion for speakers, the Dart has a pull handle E brake so you don't have that to worry about...
And I've seen shallow speakers mounted in a box and slid under the front seats..

Here's what I used.

Bought a set of Alpine speakers for them. Works great!

Also, bought a stereo speaker replacement for the dash speaker , and replaces it perfectly.

Years ago my buddy mounted them under the front seats and on the face of the bottom of the rear seat, but there you're messing with upholstery now.

I think @69darthead makes/sells a bracket to easily use two round speakers in the original dash speaker area.

I'm not knocking your request and I admire your not wanting to cut up the door cards, kick plates or rear arm rests.

there is a kickplate that comes with a molded in speaker bump

There is considerable room under the front seats and in the trunk under the well liner in specific locations.
I like those little speaker under the dash idea and some small speakers are pretty good.

there is also a speaker with 2 speakers in it for the center of the dash

BUT...

How much hi-fidelity do you expect? its a convertible, I have 1. With the top down you will be hard pressed to even hear the radio at interstate speeds, with the top up its still loud as compared to a HT or coupe.

I typically use over the ear head phones to provide hearing protection and tunes, typically it not legal in most places but...

i used the retro sound dash stereo speakers. you wont win a car audio contest but i am happy with my purchase. it was an easy install with dash out of the car.

100% agree... I've done 6x9's in speaker boxes in the rear footwell, small speakers in the dash...you can have tunes but you need to have realistic expectations...

I understand sound quality is tough. My speakers mounted under the dash as pictured gave me much better sound with the top down even on the hyway than the ones I had in my kick panels because they weren't facing me. I like the cube speakers I have but they are 8 ohm and I'm putting a sub in the trunk with a remote knob so when the top is down I will have some bass. 8 ohm speakers could fry the amp and I don't want to burn my car up over it. I think the molded kick panel are a good option, I would just have to move my manual washer pump over some. I'm considering speakers under the buckets facing the rear for the backseat area.Rarly do I have people in the back. Just looking for options. I like stereo so the front speaker would be out unless I made it a sub but would probably rattle the hell out of the dash.

Check to see if your washer switch button can push in!

I suspect that all the switches have the washer button option, just the wire is not run to the engine compartment. Heck the wire might be in the harness to the bulkhead connectors on the dash side. Something to look into. Get the water out of the car.

Make boxes and set on back seat. Then when u get back seat company put in trunk or put on trunk. Run wires between the seat bottom and back.

Buy a battery powered Bluetooth speaker and throw it in the back seat. Best sounding option you will find.

I get it, My moms 65 mustang had one that leaked the washer fluid into the front foot well, did not know of a long time, mom did not drive bare footed.

Higher ohm speakers won’t hurt your amp, they pull less current.

Lower ohm speakers (using a 4 when the amp is designed for 8) is usually where the trouble starts.

You can usually connect two 8 ohms speakers in parallel to get an equivalent 4 ohm load. Just make sure you have them phased the same.

I have a pair of Aiwa EXOS-9's I put on the back seat. Sometimes I put one in the passenger side footwell. They are bluetooth wireless and automatically sense when they are paired and do left and right channel separation. I put them in the trunk when I leave the car somewhere. No wires, all day music and incredibly decent bass.

I stream music from the app Tidal on my phone. All their music is CD quality and above. No wires, fits in both my hot rods and in my garage when I'm not using them in my cars. They are amazing sounding.

They have since come out with a newer more powerful version the EXOS-10. I have not heard them yet, but I did go through about 4 other bluetooth speakers before finding the Axios-9's.

I'm guessing if you put 4 of these in your car along with the matching tweeters, subs, amps and DSP; she would go right to a bullet to the head.

But, boy-oh-boy does it sound amazing!

I have the 4x6 kick panel speakers in my barracuda. They work ok for treble, but don’t have a lot of volume.

I am an old rock & roller, so I like loud music. That is pretty hard to do in a convertible unless you can find a place to mount some good 6x9s.

I have a 23 challenger with the harmon kardon stereo. Nothing else sounds good after listening to that.

I just picked up these cheap box speakers.Velcro to the armrest. They sound ok. I also went back to the front kick panel speakers. I will pick up a set of the custom speaker kick panels. Just waiting on my 5 channel amp so I can add the subs in the trunk.
