How much should a basic 340 rebuild cost?

I love how self-conscious some of you are that when somebody does the same thing for Less you instantly attack the quality of the work. At this point I could care less about being censored on the cylinder head shootout or any of the other **** any of the other builders are doing on here. Have at it.

lol. You are skipping ****. Or you don’t value your labor. Or both.

Charge what ever you want. There is a big market for what you do.
For people who don't love what they do, it's nothing but a labor.
Sounds more like some people don't get much work and they need to make a retirement off one job

Same to ya! I never gave a **** about what you think say or do.

I’m betting engine builders on here who do it every day and get paid to do it charge way more that you do.

That means they are either screwing the customer or they do MORE.

I didn’t say **** about the quality of your work. I said you have to be skipping ****.

Take your low self esteem somewhere else.

Most of them are screwing people to pay off their machines

Exactly. You say I’m ******* people. Yet I don’t care.

I don’t lower my standards to yours because of what you think.

You would have to raise your standards to meet mine, not only as a builder.. but as a person.
All you do is run your mouth. If you were building anything you wouldn't be on here half as much as you are. Truth is you are a hack and a plagiarist who suffers from short man syndrome.

@NC Engine Builder
You agreeing with him is the same as insulting me as well.

How is that insulting you.

I suggest he’s saying he can’t or won’t do it for that money.

Damn you are a thin skinned baby.

Sorry NC, I didn’t mean to step in your stuff but this guy is just running off at the mouth.

It’s sad really.

Quit projecting. If you said a third of the **** you post on here to my face you would be looking up at the sky

Lol.

Going to have a 340 built this winter, and I'm wondering about how much I should expect to pay for labor.

Just for a basic rebuild on both block and heads... will be somewhat mild, just a little better than stock. Not over 400hp once done... better airflow, headers, etc will go toward this end.

If I buy something like the RPM Master Engine Kit:

http://www.rpmmachine.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=116

(Yes, I will talk to the builder before ordering anything), and assuming nothing goes wrong unexpectedly, how much should it cost to be tanked and magnafluxed then built up... probably some porting done or whatever to make it all match and flow nice? It's a nice, clean-looking '69 block with '70 X heads.

Also, can anyone recommend someone in or near the Milwaukee area to do this?

Thanks.
Best of luck, blueswinger.
Unless the opinion is coming out of Milwaukee, its pretty much useless.
Pricing is regional and varies. Just ask for a list of what's all being done for the price you're paying beforehand. Enjoy your motor, and best of luck

lol. My opinion makes you cry. Boohoo.

Making the claim that 1k is what it costs to assemble a Pro Stock engine shows you are either stupid or trolling. Probably both.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate guys like MO and you because when the tire kickers and coupon clippers come in I send them to guys like you.

I guess the glaring fact is guys like you are either not capable of doing precision work or you won’t do it.

That says something about YOU. You lack the skill, talent and tools to do it right so you just half *** and then claim it’s good enough.
you don't know me from the man in the moon, jack. so you can take all that and shove it up your *** sideways.

all i see here from you, time and time again, user name, after user name after user name, is the same wore out tired *** proclamations and declarations of greatness. frankly, it's kinda sad to be honest.

i'm not a psychiatrist, nor have i played one on television, but i think that a lot of your vitriol stems from your self identifying on some of these "issues" you take so dearly. perhaps some self introspection is in order. i'll happily send a teddy bear your way if you need to hug it out.

This thread is confusing. The price is for labor to assemble an engine in the year 2010 A.D. correct. Wasn't that 15 years ago? I think I fell asleep next to a tree. Damn my beard looks like it has 15 years' worth of growth!

We can crack this open now and call it a day. It's the 15 year.

Both the shadow boxers have been removed from the ring.
The fight has been declared a draw.

To bring back to subject and for future reference, My latest Small block Mopar rebuild cost $3500 in parts ($2500) and labor ($750 in block work, $250 in headwork) late 2024, early 2025.
I put it together myself, but local labor for just putting one together is $1200.
So If I had them machine and build it the cost would be $4700.
That was with reusing the bolts, heads (just resurfaced them and new guides), crank and rods and replacing everything else.
My latest Big block build cost $7000 in parts and labor over the past year.

I'm on nobodies side here but my own. That being said, the time just to clean all of the parts is worth a lot! It is time I hate.
I used to charge a grand to assemble a basic engine. It kept a lot of the entitled chevy guys away.
I would never assemble something that I didn't do the machine work on myself. I would not assemble even a stock 318 if the customer did not want it balanced.

Although I liked the work, I had 3 kids to feed. Tooling costs for a shop are outrageous. There are a lot of unbillable hours when you do it for a living.

Stock or race, the guy putting it together has to be on top of everything, you cannot afford a single failure.

Just my thoughts, for free take it for what you paid for it.

That's some good recent information...Thankyou. So realistically the labor to build a 340 in 2010 could have easily been $1000.00 or less
