318 upgrades

-
Funniest thing he does is bring old UTG and 318 threads back from the dead so he can hate on them some more, If we have a dry spell of new 318 and UTG threads :)

His junk did run good till it didnt and he beat it pretty hard.

Anyways here is a good question for a 318 mod.

Anyone ever mod a 318 streetmaster since in reality its cast like a mini torker if one works over the plenum? :wtf:

318……. “Upgrades”??

This would seem to imply that they were less than perfect as Ma Mopar installed them between the fenders.

That can’t be true!!

You "build" 340's. You "upgrade" 318's.

318willrun, I watched your budget 318 hop-up videos where you got your Duster running 13.90's with $500 worth of parts etc. This was great content, inspiring stuff. With this upgrade you ported a set of small port, small valve 675 heads. I'd like to know what difference there is in doing something similar, only difference is a set of mildly ported and cut 1.88/1.60 J heads?

Thanks, it was a lot of fun! I've done 360 heads on 318's. They flow more. I didn't on that particular 318 because I set a goal of under 500 (spent 498 lol). I usually cut them .040 and I've never had to resurface the intake either. That was my experience.

this thread is awesome.

most importantly, my 318 with 60 trillion hours on it runs like a champ with it's upgrades!

scamazon 1 barrel dont-know-who-makes-it carb,
new water pump +3hp
3rd timing gear and chain, 4* advance +300hp
new coil, well, 3, i goofed and ran straight 12v on 1.5ohms. They smell funny after a while., +5hp
new plugs, right here was +30hp, i bought them from summit. says on the box high performance.
new wires +35hp, pointless using solid core wires on race plugs
90w gear lube for oil, finally makes 30psi when hot and fast idling. -600hp, i had to 'upgrade' my starter for the 90w oil

. $ 700 to get it rebuilt. I couldn't make the mopar OEM fit... yes, that's the passenger manifold for size comparison. It was a STRUGGLE to fight that thing up in there. Its soooo tight. It had to go laterally along the frame from the front of the engine, through the custom cut out motor bracket, all the way back to the bellhousing. and that ***** weighs all of 50-60 pounds. Jesus good god i almost died. Luckily there's 6" studs it hangs on. And I don't even know how a man would get the nut on the 3rd stud...wasn't there during removal either.

But wow. It wings that 318 over like it's missing all 8 spark plugs.I used some 4/0 copper too.

90w gear is akin to 40 or 50 motor oil, which a slap *** wore out motor would probably want as to have some semblance of pressure. but the additive package in the gear oil could likely be detrimental to the soft metal bearings.

i'd say you'd probably want to analyze the oil when you perform the PM as to catch something before it goes round and brown, but we're well past that point.

i was reasonable, sorta.....

i used GL4, yellow safe!! no EP additives!

two birds one stone, what was left went into the diffs and planetaries.

I've never heard of a Hough loader before. Is it pronounced like "though"?

I was going to make a joke about it being used for the mothers of 318 haters, but I'm afraid that it might take more than even the mighty 318 for them...
"huff".

Discontinued back in the 60s?. Its rare for sure, especial the model I have, the 50 series which is plumbed for a 3rd spool, a drott 4in1 up front.

Usually seen on tracked machines, not wheel loaders.

Ah, there's your problem. European beer doesn't know Mopars. Try moonshine instead.
I tried moonshine. And domestic beer. Everyone drinks it! My fridge is always empty!

So I started Heineken, and now it stays full!

Except when I'm outside working in January/February, that's the only time I switch to harder stuff.

Damn beer keeps freezing. So annoying.

Pronounced "Huff". They made first rubber tired loader & then bought by International Harvester in the 1950s.
Before using Chrysler Industrial, they used Hercules gas engines in many units.
The Payloader Brand originated at Hough, and were the first to use hydraulic bucket lift arms.
Always wondered what exhaust manifolds Chrysler Industrial used & farm applications, too.
