Hydraulic/Solid lifter question

-
This was common practice in the old days 50's-60's as HP cams "race cams" were few and far between and engine model selection was very scarce, and also very expensive.
When i built my first hot rod motor a 51 Cadillac bottom end and American Cyl head 56 caddy heads I used a 58 caddy cam with chevy solid lifters, "thanks Mr Duntoff for the Duntoff 30-30 cam and lifters so solids were readily available" used the stock caddy pushrods and rockers from a Studebaker V8 as they were adjustable. Had to use two rocker cover gaskets and dimple the rockers to clear the adjuster screws, set the clearance .004" hot I could tirn the engine a little past 6000 RPM with this setup.
You had to be inventive back then as a dollar issue was prevalent then especially as I was just a teenager in high school then.
What did you put the caddy in?

There are lifters made to bridge this gap. They are called anti pump up lifters and require about .002" lash.

You could, some people have, me myself I will use pieces design to be used with each other if possible. Yep!

I have some new/old Crower’s. They have a weird *** kind of a snap ring. If I remember right it looks like a beveled/concave disc. Kim
I got the LAST old school Isky ones for a friend's 350 Chevy a few years ago that Summit had in stock. I was looking for a good replacement set and couldn't have found better. The old Crowers are just as good. I've seen the retainers like you're talking about.

I’ll post some pics when I dig them out. Kim

What did you put the caddy in?
A 1950 chevy convertible with a Packard three speed tranny with overdrive and a 55 Pontiac rear end with 430 gears. My dad built headers for it when we put the engine in and also traction bars for the rear springs. It ran low 15's at just over 100mph in the quarter in 61.
