IS 700 HP POSSIBLE WITH......

You don't need 700 HP to put a huge grin on your face .
If you need to "say" you've got 700 HP, - lie . . it seems acceptable now.
I smile ear to ear every time I drive Vixen. If she has 1HP per cube it's a miracle.

If and when the new 440 source block with the first four cross bolted caps comes out, then no problem making 700 plus hp with ported B1 original heads reliably. But, I can think of a lot of ways to do it it for a lot less outlay, too!

Yep if you go up a bit in capacity!
Tom Nelson did it in 2003 with a 470ci low deck 400 block.

Its all about the heads and the flow numbers.
Cam selection gets tricky once you get into that bracket.

Tom Nelson used three or four different grinds and they were all flat tappets.
Got to be BIG heads that flow well but doing without a dyno will be hard...

My 470 low deck had 11.2 measured compression. Stage 6 heads that flowed 320 ish and 260 ish. 620 roller cam. I think 280 intake and 276 exhaust on a 110 centerline. Dynoed at 655 hp and 620 tq. 108 efficiency. Kim

Yes my 70 440 6 pac block made 650 hp back in the 80's torker intake 850 double pumper hevy TRW 12:1 pistons had them cut to 11:1 so i could use super gas today 700hp would be no problem with the new cams alu heads pistons and intakes , how streetable it would be ?

Hi Folks

Is 700 HP possible with a naturally aspirated, single carb fed 440 street engine? Engine has all the best parts with no power adders running on premium fuel.

What say ye?
I say yes it can. What carb is being used ?

I think he said a quick fuel 900cfm?
I guess it's possible, that is kinda small CFM.
it would be nice to know what heads and other supporting cast was in the engine.
Id assume this would have a max wedge or 270 port trickflow head.

any time slips for these hp #'s?
Yes I have slips from the car. They do not coincide with the HP. But the dyno slips were 6 years prior from Ryder engines in Carlisle Pa. They did 14 pulls. Here is one from the Batten 428 this one is 593 at 7200 before the carb and timing change. We went from a 850 to a 1050 and were pulling timing out of it. 686 comp cam in the 428 with batten heads . I'll see if Steve has other Dyno slips.

I’m putting down 592hp with a 410 small block… no power adders…. I’m sure it’s possible.

We are back to the old problem with the 440 block again!
Will it take 700-horses for any amount of time?

That's why the guys in the know used 230 casting low deck blocks back in the day.
I know of a 1200-horse ex Dick Landy 400 block still alive after 30 years!

Hopefully this will be a mute point once '440-Source' get their blocks onto the market!
Twenty years too late for us Europeans as we will be electric drag cars by 2030...:mob:

700 hp is easy with a 440 but it won't be much of a street engine. The cam that you need to make 700 hp will be very difficult to drive with a 4 speed, but it can be tolerated if you have a high stall converter and some steep gears. 700 hp is easier if you build a 505.

Love your Max performance Book Andy!!!!

Even built as a 505, I think one that made a true 700hp would end up being rowdier than what many people envision them as being like.

I was just reading through your build on your website about the 470 that made 780hp. Amazing

What do you mean by "true"
Like observed HP numbers 700 vs corrected HP 700 ?
If so, yeah there's a lot of power added with correction factor.
(I don't know if I should say added, but just when the really good weather scenario occurs which is correction factor standards)
