We tried to get to the halibut hole yesterday but the bar was a little too rough. We piddled in the harbor and the marina mostly.

Here’s a question; what do ya’ll do with these expired flare cartridges? I can’t imagine hanging on to bunches of them is a good idea and tossing them in the rubbish is equally bad. I carry two sets of old ones as backup but I’ve got ‘em from 2011!

In some Minnesota counties you can take them to the local police or fire department for disposal, no questions asked. Perhaps your local authorities offer a similar service, and a quick phone call may help.

Crazy day with the kids today. We lost a lot of fish. My 4 year old hooked some pinks with her “Barbie” fishing pole. That was rough! My son handed me the net without extending the handle and I tried but knocked the fish off the hook…we had to release some wild coho but eventually got a couple fish in the cooler.
Not sure what that little left eye was but didn’t chance it….we ate well but I’m ready for bed!!

Anyone else suffer from a weak stream?

lol! Cleanup sux.
Seriously though I think mine may have a thermostat, it seems to pick up after awhile.

Lol, me too Doug. I cleaned out tell tale, no change.... changed impeller and same weak stream. Took airline and blew into the water intake and voila! Changed damn impeller for no reason.
The garden hose in your pic, is that a type of flush? Mine has attachment but ive never used it.
I've always used muffs to run water(chance of false psi tho)

Yes, I found an attachment that screwed right into that inlet and I pump water directly into the motor. It falls down through the lower unit and the tell-tale. It doesn’t work well on our low water pressure here so I started using the tub as backup. We got an auxiliary pump recently and it can force the outboard to pee without the impeller running at all but I still like having water down there too.

flushing salt or just running it a few times per winter.

MEN'S HELP LINE – Letter of the Month

Dear Tom,
I really need your advice on a serious problem: I have suspected
for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs:
If the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs up. She goes out with the girls a lot. I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home, but I usually fall asleep. Anyway last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the boat. When she came home she got out of someone's car buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. It was at that moment crouched behind the boat that I noticed a hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket. Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace the whole bracket?
Thanks,
Joe

Hose, and a tub? Never tried that on any of my Mercs before. Interesting…..

I have been using the tub for the kicker motor for years. There seems to be a vent or something higher up the lower unit that if I just use muffs the lower gets hot??! Never a problem if I get that orifice in the water all the way. Just started using the tub on the larger one to augment that water pressure issue I mentioned. That fitting was coming apart this last time and letting too much water out….

Never thought about using both, or even if that works. On my old white Mercs (Kiekhaefers), I’d put the lower unit in a garbage can full of water to run ‘em onshore. Later on I bought some muffs, but since I bought cheap ones they didn’t work all that well. Imagine my surprise when I bought my first 4 stroke Honda (Merc lower unit) and found there was a hose fitting in there for that purpose….

Anyway, I still haven’t run-up the 90 HP Merc this year yet, so I’m going to have to check this out!

lol, I did something similar taking a couple friends fishing once but with tree stumps, logs, and roots that I got snarled in. (Prairie Lake WI)
Started trolling coming in toward the stumps and made a turn to the right to go parallel to the bank and the boat just stops.... abruptly. WTH?..SOB, I neglected to tilt the outdrive up with a 32" draft:BangHead:! Try tilting it up and it starts pulling the transom down, I'm stuck. Water too murky to see anything. After several failed tries and curses thinking I'm gonna' need to get in the water to get unstuck. The guys are getting concerned wanting to call for some help. Then it dawns on me to try to do the opposite of what I did to get in there. So I troll the bow left 90° then troll backward to freedom:steering:!
