Removing scratches in chrome ashtray sliding cover

The ashtray sliding cover is heavily scratched. Can scratches like these be safely polished out?

Try a product called Bar Keeper's Friend. It's on the cleaner asile at the grocery store. It'll get some out for sure.

I would test with wet and fine sandpaper start at 2000 and work to 5000?

The highest grit I could find at the paint shop is 3000. I might have to use glazing compounds.
Have you ever bought higher grit paper?

Im pretty sure i have bought up to 5k, but I could be wrong, that was here in Onterrible.

Third option: I've had some jukebox metal re-polished, and some re-chromed, and I always left the decision of which way to proceed up to the chrome shop. Maybe if there's a chrome shop nearby, take this to them and get their opinion, as they deal with this sort of thing all the time. If it's thin, I'd hate to see you polish through to the under (copper?) layer.

I wish we had a chrome shop nearby but the closest ones are in Calgary and Edmonton. The only thing close to a chrome shop in Red Deer is a shop that does a spray chrome paint finish.

I'd use a medium grit compound on a wool pad on a drill and then go to a finer compound on a foam pad.

Won't really get rid of the scratches but it should polish it up enough to where they aren't as noticeable.
