You gotta want to love them and enjoy the aesthetic more than the performance. In a truck they leave a lot to be desired!
And I'm not even going to make it a hot rod. I can't even put my finger on it, and I've owned a lot of slants. The sound? The torque to run up a hill? Distributor location? I don't know, I just can't slant...

I feel the same way about flat heads and two stroke bikes. Just not my thing. I’m a slant lover though.

I don't even use all the power the slant offers. Most of my driving is a half inch or less of the gas... Can't say it's power related... though it is hilly here and sometimes I could use a small amount more of torque...

I believe it's just I like the sound of the V8, the way the V8 sits under the hood, and in my opinion how much more accessible the "common parts" are on a V8 (distributor, spark plugs, etc). Even the T-stat standing upwards on the slant is in it's own sense not common sense... LOL. And I'm not picking on slants, just saying that "I can't slant"... :D

I’m a diehard V8 guy myself, so I think I understand. But I will also admit there’s just “something” about the smoothness of an inline 6 that can’t be ignored.

My Slant in my Dart runs great and it has plenty of power .
However,,,it only has 27,000 miles on it,,,it’s not worn out yet .
Also,,,it has a Clifford intake with a 4 barrel Edelbrock,,,and headers as well
That probably helps some .

Swapped out a slant 6 for a 318... Totally transformed the Truck.

Sold the slant 6 engine to a guy with a Swather (farm machinery) and he was happy to get it.

I have my dad's original 1987 pick-up..........Last year for the slants. I was going to swap in a Cummins, but I just don't have the heart to. It makes more sense to have a bigger, more powerful engine but hey, my dad bought it new. What can I say:)

Totally get it!

Needless to say, the slant is an American Icon engine. A lot of history, and a zillion of them made, and all the call to duties they shared.... I'm not taking ANYTHING away from the slant, or it's fans. In fact, I did a short little video giving them the props they deserve! But they've never got a hold of me... so to speak... LOL

In the end.... I can't slant... :)

I'm with you on the slants. I couldn't yank the 225 out of my 69 Dart fast enough. Sadly it's been sitting with no engine now for 15 years. Maybe I should've left the slant in there to yard move. Lol

Yes! Have something ready BEFORE yanking ... ha!
