Stop in for a drink.

Sacrilegious, I know...
Summertime I'll take my cocktail in a double-walled steel cup so it doesn't sweat all over me when I'm sitting out.

No judgment there. One reason why I rarely drink a mixer with ice. They sweat all over. What ever it is it looks good. I wonder what I can mix with Ginger Ale and ice?

Funny you should ask

Not bad. I will try it with some better Ginger Ale and see how it is. Than I might try some Orange bitters.

Orange bitters and Canada Dry GA is better. Still not a huge bitters fan though.

See if you can find a sample pack of various bitters... but I get it. Bitters seems pointless against a good Rye
I grabbed a bottle of Rittenhouse and it was a barrel pick from Ace Spirits in Minneapolis. I poured a couple shots in a Glen Carin and I'll see how it is. Ted and I were on a Rittenhouse kick a few years ago when the bottles were so good and complex. We finished a bottle at his house in amazement and I went out the next day to find another. I bought 8 different bottles trying to find a replacement but all were disappointing. It must have ben a new batch. Frustrating for sure.

Wow, only 100 proof but I am breaking out in a sweat. That tells me it is more alcohol based and less flavor. Like it is immature. Rye only needs to be 2 years old and I bet this is young. That's probably why the batch change. I bet they couldn't keep up and started pulling stock from younger barrels. Rittenhouse became real popular as a mixer. It sure isn't a sipper any more.

I rode south with Travis today to pick up a few cases of Cedar Ridge bottles. The Iowa Whiskey Chasers group picked a couple barrels. Both were QuintEssential barrels, American Single Malt, one was a Port finish (I believe) and the other was a Peated Malt in ex Bourbon casks. I wasn't a huge fan of the wine finished. It had a ethanol kick and tasted immature to me. Trav knows I don't like Peat but I tried it anyway and it was absolutely delicious. Not too much peat. Smooth, creamy, vanilla, powdered sugar sweet and a little almond. We tasted 4 different bottles and went back in to buy a couple more. I also bought a Penelope Architect (French Oak Stave finish) because of Trav's recommendation and he bought a Angels Envy Triple Oak which was really good as well. I had to stop somewhere. Ted and I are driving to Wisconsin tomorrow and stopping by Driftless Glen for a 10 year Rye release and also Dancing Goat to see what they have going on. It should be an expensive but fun day.

Driftless Glen Distillery had a 10 year Rye release party yesterday (9/4/25) so Ted and I made the trip. The party started mid afternoon so we started in Cambridge at Cash and Olive's Pub for lunch then drove out to Dancing Goat for some sampling and of course shopping. We tried 3, a High Rye Bourbon (which we brought home), a Port Finished Rye, and a Chocolate Bitters finished Rye. The rye was just meh and the chocolate rye smelled wonderful but we discovered the bitters gave it an odd taste mid palate. We did pick up a few bottles of their barrel finished Maple Syrup. Always delicious!
It's an hour drive to Driftless Glen in Baraboo and we got there on time for the party. They started the self guided tour in the distilling room where they were mashing and distilling rye and got to sample some fresh White Dog. It was quite smooth and sweet. No wonder their Rye's are so good. The tour went through one of the older rickhouses and followed up in the bottling building. There we sampled straight from the barrel ryes and some bottled 10 year bourbons. We also sampled and bottled our own 10 year Rye including the corking, labeling and shrinking the stopper seal. We wandered back to the main building for a delicious Orange Old Fashioned out on the patio overlooking the river. They had a raffle to finish off the event. It was a great time for sure.

Glad all of you who can enjoy your afternoon evening toddys. I am one of those guys who liked any and all of it TOO MUCH (The Irish/ Scottish thing) as I have not had anything at all for over 25.5 years coming up on 26 years. I don't miss it at all as i was one of those guys who showed up to a dead party to having the party rocking in about 5 to 10 minutes. In 1986 I was working on a Sweetheart cup division consolidation project in Baltimore Maryland with some boys form the Carolinas who used to bring me some good shine ...... $15.00 a half gallon .... Once I learned how to par-take in that stuff it was the smoothest drink ever .....and burned the pretty-est color blue you ever saw in your life.........
I thought it was best for me to give it up. I am also not ashamed to tell you with Gods help it was granted instantly January 13th --2000. Yall have one for ole Gary... Texas Red

I was a gin drinker. Coming up on 22 years this month and I too give credit to God. Congratulations on your 25 years, that's awesome.
