Mystery spring for carb?

where does this spring go? Found it laying under aircleaner. Would this cause the engine to be hard start/not stay running?

That's for the kick down linkage, it won't cause the engine to die.... But it might cause the trans to not shift...

The pictured spring is the throttle pressure rod, or kick down, return spring. It installs as shown in the following image:

It is for the kickdown, and with that gone it will upshift later and maybe not upshift at all.

Have you been driving this car? How does trans shift?
