They are actually illegal to sell in almost all states! We had them when we were kids, never gave a though to getting injured. I guess we had more common sense than kids today. Or could it be the parents?

Lawn darts (or Jarts) are banned for sale in all US states due to a nationwide ban enacted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The ban, which went into effect on December 19, 1988, prohibits the sale of all pointed lawn darts across the United States.
Details on the ban:
  • Reason for the ban: The CPSC found that the metal-tipped lawn darts presented an unreasonable risk of serious injury and death, particularly to children. The ban followed thousands of injuries and the deaths of at least three children.
  • Call to destroy: In addition to banning sales, the CPSC urged anyone who owned old sets of lawn darts to destroy them to prevent further accidents.
  • Canada also banned Jarts: Canada followed with its own similar ban in 1989.
While some versions of the game with safer, rounded plastic tips are now sold, original, pointed Jarts cannot be legally sold in any US stat

Your words made it seem like they were illegal to sell. What isn't clear is private party sales.
Sure, it might be illegal for a store to sell them but if someone wants to sell a set that they have, the government has no authority to stop that. These are not firearms or drugs.

Well, you can't sell them on eBay. That's also a fact.

Nope, not all of us had common sense. We had a neighborhood kid that used to shoot arrows straight up into the sky then run around like an idiot when it started coming back down. He is probably responsible for 75% of the dumb warnings you see today.

Funny thing about common sense, it’s not so common. However I still have a problem with the government and lobbyists that keep trying to protect me from myself.

Agree. I am OK at tuning a carb, but not great. What I can do is rebuild one.
True Story: My Neighbor, Eddie, had a 76 Cadilac Eldorado convertible that had been in storage for several years. It was a little rough around the edges, but it was solid and the 76 FWD Eldorado convertibles are rather hard to find. He decided to sell it. He has a friend who is a mechanic who agreed to get it running well enough to sell. He got it running, changed the oil and plugs and tuned it up, but it was still running rough. He told Eddie that the carb needed to be rebuilt and "Good luck finding somebody in town to do that." Eddie asked me, "What do I do now?" I told him that I could rebuild it. So, we got the carb number and ordered the kit. I watched several videos on YouTube and rewatched a good one several times. The next day, I amazed him with my deep knowledge of Quadrajet carb. I was able to name all the parts and describe what they did. Once it was back on the car, the engine started right up. after a few adjustments, it was purring. I NEVER admitted that I got all that knowledge off of YouTube.:lol:
