Notice that ^^^ these 302 heads have been Port Matched to the intake manifolds going on to them.

Port Matched, Gasket Matched, Intake Matched.

NAPA years ago sold a kit that included some self tapping screws that you screwed into those exhaust ports and then smacked them with a hammer and broke them off. Sounds ridiculous but it worked VERY well.

If you are starting from scratch and doing a complete rebuild, Get yourself a used 5.9 Magnum engine to build.
No substitute for cubic inches.
They are dirt cheap and really just need a good cam, valve job, intake, smaller carb,headers..
Easy 300 hp +. Just need to convert from the serp belt drive to a standard 360 timing cover and cam
Magnum Swap -your source for Mopar engine swap information.

Yeah I just read the reviews not so good about them rockers.
Look up Mike at B3 rocker arms, if your going to upgrade. He has experience with all the aftermarket units and can lead you in the right direction.

I bought a set of PRW rocker arms and shafts. In the end they needed to be cleaned very thoroughly. There was a lot of metal dust in them from honing the bushings.

I'll have to ask my Napa next time I am there and see if they have them.

Oil pump pickup screen do you guys have any advice on getting all the oil deposit out of it? I was thinking of leaving it in gasoline or diesel overnight to break it all up. Unless you guys have any advice?

soak it in 100% pure pinesol.

NB a quart of the stuff will set you back the price of a new pick up

how could anybody tell? there's no frame of reference!

if you had a gasket overlayed it would be more informative and understood. here, this is just a picture of an engine with no context.

rock auto! there is always something left...
Do you happen to have a part number?
i’ve got OEM 318 and 360 LA hydraulic rockers. I can look and see if there’s a part number stamped on the left right.

As for the oil pump pick up, it depends on what oil pan he has.

That's everything gentlemen that's been cleaned up and being used back onto the engine. The timing cover and water pump is brand new. I was going to steal the main cap bolts off my 73 318 block since that's getting ARP main cap bolts, I figured ARP main cap bolts should do me justice on the drag strip.

You need to use the the 6 3/4" pushrods > roller lifter engine pushrods that work with the roller engine stamped factory rocker arms and roller lifters.

Not the longer 7" pushrods for the small block hydraulic cams.

The 302 heads that are made for the 318 roller lifter engines have larger pushrod holes that allow the pushrods to swing without rubbing with the taller standing roller lifters.

Your '87 318 roller Truck engine came with the factory 9.2:1 cr flat top pistons. Good to use those, and they are already balanced with the assembly.

Aftermarket pistons have a lower compression height coming in closer to 8:1 cr like your '73 318 engine came with.

I wish I could reuse the pistons, but there holes in each side wall on the pistons? What's the rpm range on the hydraulic roller cam if you might know?
