So I have not found a conclusive answer in searching here, elsewhere, or in the Mopar service manual. For A body from 67-72 there seems to be tale of 2 bar sizes, possibly more: 7/8” and 15/16” being the normal.

I ask because while the HD suspension, 340 engine, or big block options seem to be the packages that received sway bars, what size is a curiosity. Did it come down to what size was out in that model year was all of them regardless, and the size changed thru the years? Or was the size based on the actual option package?

For example, I am adding a sway bar to my 72 Duster and took a 15/16” sway bar off of a 69 Barracada.

Here is what I found...

Each year there was only one shaft for all engine and suspension types
Each year the part number changed
I know my darts sway bar is original to the car (273 2bbl with Rallye Suspension package)

I suspect with a part number change each year there are 3 67-69 style sway bar ODs running around

The Rallye suspension package could be had on any car, like front disk brakes or the GT trim package. So you could have a slant 6 with front disk brakes and sway bar and HD 6 leaf rear springs, heck even an 8 3/4 IF the trailer towing package was offered with a slant 6 (which I think it was)

1967 ( 0.880 OD shaft, measured off my one family car)

1968 NEW Part number not listed in previous parts books (green arrows) UNKNOWN OD

1969 Different part number than 68 UNKNOWN OD (Rlbit is selling one from a 69 and it measures 0.958, very close to Wvbuzzmaster's 15/16 or 0.9375, paint or forming could account for a 0.020" difference)

1970-1971 Barracuda was no longer an A body so the listing is only for Valient (V) and Dart (L) same part number from 69

to my knowledge there's only two sizes of 67~72 bars: the small block bar and the larger big block bar; commonly referred to as 7/8" and 15/16"

The sway bar I pulled off of the 69 Barracuda that I stated as 15/16” measures 0.95~” which Is slightly above 15/16” but figured that 15/16” was the “nominal” dimension intended, but that is an assumption on my part. I did not get to read the vin or the fender tag.

Reasonable assumption. So it actually measures the same as the other 69 bar.

As for SB vs BB the parts book only shows 1 bar part number per year so I don't believe you had a choice based on engine type.

If enough 67-69 a body owners reported their KNOWN stock bar OD we could probably put this to bed.

Time to crawl under those survivers with a caliper!

#OLDMANMOPAR Steve is doing some research on this. Maybe he will chime in.

So if they were upping the size from 67 to 69 and the 69 bar measuring at 0.95” is the biggest, is it safe to believe it was the only bar carried up thru the 72 model year until the 73 K frame change? From what I also gathered the part number changed twice from 67 to 69 and then remained the same thru 72, unless I misunderstood what I have read so far.

Yep. I updated my previous post to enclose the 70-71 and 72 parts book pages

So there are 3 part numbers for all A bodies regardless of engine.

At least 2 sizes that we have proof of.

67 - 2462 838 (0.880" nominal 7/8")
68 - 2535 533 (unknown OD)
69-72 - 2535 534 (0.950" nominal 15/16")

Dumb thought here. Isn’t the 67 K frame undesirable because of the idler arm setup and in 68 they improved that? Is it possible they improved something about the sway bar too since 67 was the first year of that whole situation? Maybe a bend or hole size or something is different between 67 and 68 and then in 69 they just made the bar bigger??

67 bar is the same shape as 68 up bars and interchangeable, as with all other components till 73.

Only major change to suspension components is the idler in 68.
