removing emergency brake cable

Is there an easy way to remove the emergency brake cable from the backing plate

if you are going to re-use the cable, use a small hose clamp and collapse the fingers, then it will slid out. if not re-using it, break the fingers

Driving a piece of appropriately sized tubing or deep well socket over the cable end will also do the trick.
