The ones in our pantry are just under 13 years old!
Technically, the case lot will have a "test inspect" date or some sort that ALLEGEDLY guides you. Unit Vet would test.... cracking open a spoiled one is just gross, and depressing

Yes, 20-year-old MREs can still be safe to eat, but their quality, taste, and texture will likely have degraded, and safety depends heavily on storage conditions. MREs that have been stored in cool, dry, and stable temperatures are much more likely to be safe than those exposed to heat, which can make them inedible even if they don't pose a bacterial risk.

I can very vividly remember opening a can of chow with my trusty John Wayne hunkered down in a cave, and the can was clearly marked manufactured 1954. This was in 79/80. The Marine Corps spares no expense feeding the troops!

Still thought the 1st Gen MRE and LRPS were better than exotic BS they created for the office pukes that played Army on occasion.
Used to have the winter MREs as well. Two bags was one meal. Massive calorie count

-10, cold enough. Furnace not running and pellet stove is doing a fantastic job. I opened furnace to discover a wire burned off one element. So i will pull element, make sure its ok before i replace wire. Heavier gauge and heavy duty terminals may prevent it happening again. Spade terminal on a snap disc, my concern is the snap disc is bad. Way overpriced and no stock in town. I checked with my local electchicken and he has to bring them in.
I see the bus is banging the ditch on both sides of the road yesterday. Keep up the good work!
