Hoping in a couple of weeks I’ll be able to begin on this project
I don't know which is worse. Chicago weather or all the stories about California smog and what you have to// can't// do to a car out thereWe love seasons in California. That’s why we live in a state that skips all the shitty ones.
96 days to go!I'll make a long story shorter. Back in 74 I bought a 64 Fury convertible off a friend and the deal was he got the 383 out of it. Another friend had a high mileage 440 out of a smashed up 72 New Yorker he had scrapped, the price was 20 dollars, the cam was wiped so I put a 2 barrel 361 cam in that I had laying around along with FelPro blue gaskets further lowering the CR, ha ( I'll start a thread soon about gasket changing cylinder distortion) I put it in the Fury with 68 Road Runner exhaust manis and stock intake with a 383 AVS, it had a 3.23 SG and PB trans with a 12" coverter and L78 x 15 Caddy tires on the rear. It was quick but flat by 5K RPM, all torque no HP but still a good car for going to work and towing my race car to the track, Hampton or National but it used about 2 quarts of oil a week. I was at Hampton one Sunday and noticed a leak in an exhaust port of the race car so I was done for the day and decided to write my number on the 64 Fury for fun and make a pass. It was popping all the way down the track but much to my surprise ran a 14.28. On the way back to my pit I put it on the scale, loaded with tools and various junk it weighed 3,978 without me in it, I'm 165lbs. If the whole thing comes up under 4K with driver I think it should be capable of running mid to high 13s so 13.75 is my guess.
Chicago weather for sure. The smog laws are pretty simple. If it’s newer than 75’ you can’t modify it. And if you do the part better have an EO (executive order) number from CARB (California air resources board) meaning it has been tested and approved (big $$$$ racket) by them to not alter the emissions of said vehicle. It sucks but we just modify old cars instead of new ones. You guys freeze your asses off 5 months of the year and don’t get to drive anything.I don't know which is worse. It is kind of sad when kids grow up never getting to build a snowman, have a snowball fight with neighbors, go sledding, have a white Christmas, shovel walks for cash, and especially...... school cancelations!!

Is all that white stuff gonna be gone by April?Little update. Just communicated with the transmission guy. He was willing to "build" it to race. I just want a solid rebuild. Looks like we may be getting started. In the meantime, we been in subzero temps. But when I get the transmission back, we'll be that much closer. I should have everything else needed. We'll then just wait on appropriate weather... LOL
I’m suddenly liking the guess I made before realizing how small the cam is in the RV engine. It’s pretty close to the same specs as the B engine 2bbl cam. In this case we’ve got a good street type single plane and headers with a proper ignition curve to boot. I’d like to see a compression test on that engine just to see how much cranking compression that cam makes with 7 point something to one, and to see how much pressure the one questionable cylinder is down by.It was popping all the way down the track but much to my surprise ran a 14.28. On the way back to my pit I put it on the scale, loaded with tools and various junk it weighed 3,978 without me in it, I'm 165lbs. 115 psi and .120 in the hole. Do we need to start another list for these guesses?how much cranking compression that cam makes with 7 point something to one, and to see how much the one cylinder is down by.

@318willrun Just curious, but did you have a performance valve job done on the heads after doing the cleanup work in the bowls?
