I just saw on FB that there is a different way to get into the swap meet. They say the road on the east side of the grounds is closed. Now you are supposed to enter the way we used to, Gate 1 off 38th street. There is a map on FB.

Was there yesterday too, had the hardest time finding a parking spot than I ever had at that place. Pretty full of vendors, seems like less open (empty) spaces than last year, though several that I have seen there every year weren't there this go round.

How is it? There are two bldgs full of parts and vendors. From used to new, restoration, old race stuff, you name it, it's probably there. Vendors, Stephen's Performance, Steer and Gear, Indy Cyl Head, Laysons, Brewer Performance, Mancini Racing, clothing, toys, memorabilia. I'm sure that I am missing alot, hard to remember!

Wish I had been available today. Surprised it doesn't go through Sunday. For anyone who's been to both, how does it compare to Carlisle...
Nope they changed this show from Sat/sun to fri/sat a few years ago, don't know why. Since then I've been taking Friday off of work for it
One thing I HATA HATE HATE about it is having to pay admission twice. Once to park and then to get in the building. That's $40 for 2 people just to walk in the damn door. Before you even look at the first booth of what's brought there for you to buy.
I saw 2 rusty complete drum to drum A body 8-4 rears. Way separate parts of the swap. Both were asking $1650. Rusty, used takeouts. That's ridiculous. I saw 3-4 340s that were in pieces and each seller had $1500 on those. Crazy. Most SB manifolds there (and there were many) were likewise close in price they must have had a pricing meeting before hand and decided what everyone was gonna price a given item at...

Yes, some prices are ridiculous, $5,200. for a 340 Sixpack, aircleaner to manifold, one caveat, think it was a T/A or AAR aircleaner bottom. All depends. 310 miles for me one way, long day.

I got a card in the mail a few weeks ago. They listed prices for vendors. Ridiculous. For damn little "space". And then if you are a "company? Downright criminal. And not a one could get by with 10x10 or even 10x20. All of them had to buy several spots. There is no way someone like most of us hobby type could set up there to "clear the garage"and have any money left to buy parts needed to finish that car in your garage.
I don't think that show was always"that" expensive to set up at. I've done it before (never "there") and most times did alright but tonso and all that you have to to sell there and then either "give" everything away or have to drag it all back home, there's just no way.
ICH definitely packs spectators in there but im not sure how they do so with being so crazy expensive, one day people are going to say "screw it" and stop going on both sides of the swap meet experience.

bring your stuff to the June car show/swap meet in Downers Grove. spots were in the parking lot "across" from the car show. IF I remember, it was one price for whatever room you needed. sold 2 (?) years ago and did well enuff to clean out a few spots in the garage...although you couldn't tell by the time you had stopped by :)

That's interesting, ABW. Do you any info on that meet?

I am/was an airplane guy, went to Oshkosh every year. Was building an airplane, started in '93, finished '02. The fly market at Oshkosh was really something for scroungers, bought a lot of things. They have priced spots out of the universe. Last time I was there, 2 years ago, I think that there were 2 spots with actual used aircraft stuff, except for the consignment tent. New vendors are in the A B C D bldgs, but they have had vacancy for years. The rest, and there are very FEW were pots and pans, sunglasses and you fill in the blank, non aviation. The EAA has their dirty little fingers into everything. I was a volunteer there for years, finally, the more you know, made me just get the hell away from it. Could no longer stand the millionaires and their GD attitudes towards most everyone else. Rules and guidelines for you, but not for them, because if you tell them no or piss them off, they pull their pants up and go home.
This may not be the same here, but there are similarities. Sorry for the rant.

I don't know why but I keep forgetting about that one.
