That's the industry trend.

I'm in the business and pre-owned Tesla's value are dropping like a rock!

The same is true of other makes as well.

I just traded a 2025 Cadillac IQ.

Purchase price last year including financing... $202,000.00 Canadian

Trade price... 110,000.00 Canadian. Customer bailed before the vehicle was completely worthless.

Pay no attention to the for sale ads, they are asking prices, not what vehicles actually sell for.

A lot of customers who purchased them financed over 7 and 8 years because they were so expensive and still owe the majority of the principle plus interest and are "very upside down".

The car is out of Manufacturer warranty after 4 years (no I'm not referring to the battery as that almost never gives trouble..Its everything else.). This is leaving owners in a very vulnerable position if anything goes wrong as they can't afford the payments adding the lien difference into another car so they are rolling the dice hoping they don't have an expensive part failure. ( Electric Motor is approx. $30,000.00 repair)

This attempt by stupid politicians trying to look green to garner "tree hugger, facebook, instagram morons" votes is a gigantic financial failure for the Auto manufacturers and will probably kill the North American Auto Manufacturing industry.

Good luck to all you well paid North American autoworkers...your union can't save you from this.

My son works at a dealership. When they first came out, they were not being sold, no one wanted them so the dealership offered leases to employees at $250/mo, just to get them on the road so people could see them and hopefully build interest in them... smmfh....

It was basically an attempt to make an EV for a market that hated EVs. I understand why they did it: They believed that CAFE standards were about to rise very quickly to "We're not saying it's an EV mandate, but..." levels. And with the Charger getting hit especially hard by rising economy standards, they had to do something.

Their real problem was failing to hedge their bets and make sure they had something else profitable if (or as anyone here could have told them, when) the EV Charger bombed.

they have their place but until they can fully charge in like 10 minutes they just aren't right for me. i'd never own one right now. maybe lease but i doubt you'll get any good deals with a lease because of the lousy resale. no one wants something used like that where you are closer to battery replacement.

Currently, in my not so humble opinion, EV's suck, but not because of the "EV" part. They suck because of the power source. Once they can come up with a power source that doesn't require 4500lbs and strip mining, I'll be on board but until then, they're and exercise in engineering that's being forced by people who have zero clue.

If you really want to see what is happening at dealerships with leftover EV's, look no further than the service dept loaner fleet or sales persons demo's.

They are full of EV's that can't sell.

Well, to be fair ABodyjoe, these vehicles have a range of 400 plus miles. Most people don't drive that much in a week so they may only charge a couple of times a month.

i get that which is why i said for me its not good.. there is a place for them though. i know a few people that have them and they do not make the advertised range.

Anyone stupid enough to buy one of those POS deserve what they get , and to pay 200 plus thousand  i don't feel one bit sorry for them . Smart people knew the outcome long ago .

I'm going to take this with a grain of salt.

Did they talk the price down when they bought it?
Did they give it away when they sold it?

I mean, they could sell it for a dollar and get lots of clicks, when that does not reflect actual depreciation.

That said, I'm would not be surprised. Those cars are not exactly flying off the lots.

Well, to be fair ABodyjoe, these vehicles have a range of 400 plus miles. Most people don't drive that much in a week so they may only charge a couple of times a month. The problem is the lack of infrastructure across our countries, especially in rural areas. That's where plug in Hybrids are gaining big. The units we sell get between 80-100 kms per charge and then will automatically revert to the engine if need be.

Most people don't drive that much everyday and recharge when they get home. The kicker is that these hybrids are up to 30-40,000 cheaper to buy!

Now you are effectively driving an EV but at ICE prices which is where the Morons in governments should have placed the Environmental directives in the first place.

We would be way closer to the 2030 Pollution mandate with this plan but, Biden and Trudeau knew better than the industry.

A total fu#k up in both countries caused by the biggest idiots ever to run a government!!
not a north american thing only
the euro's are really f-ed
heard bmw stop ice engines in 2025 (think just in Germany)
vw group lost billions ...no one buying
the plan of going green ...kill off the car ...make them so only the rich can afford or drive them
look at the ev bus sad that the tax payer gets screwed

These cars are the bastard child of Microsoft, Duracell and Tupperware having a dunken 3-some and not using protection. What are we doing here? We are not only killing our future, with AI and robots, but taking away our love affair with the automobile (which I think is being done purposely) The globalist elites want all us stuffed into 15 minute cities and taking public transportation. I take extreme pleasure in every word of bad news I hear about these modern, electric/self driving vehicles. At 55, I thought I'd be safe from this new world, but its happening so fast.

So let me understand this post ! The UAW worker is the culprit causing this dilemma. Making an average annual salary of maybe $50k a year.
While "Those In The Business " sitting in an Air conditioned office crunching # , milking the customers out of every dollar they can are NOT the culprits.
GOT IT.

You are correct in your assertion about cities. Worth looking at a book by Julianne Couch,
"The Small-Town Midwest: Resilience and Hope in the Twenty-First Century"

on the EV subject, Sunday's paper would show different makes/models of cars. Nice variety. Now, all they shove done your throat is EV this or that. No thank-you. wonder how difficult to transplant a V8? maybe just cut the body off and drop it on a early torsion bar/leaf spring platform...

I'm not sure if it's malicious so much as a massive failure to see other points of view. If you're someone in government with enough rank to make these decisions, you probably live in your own house in the city or suburbs and have enough money to install a charger at home and buy a new $50,000 plus car every three to five years.

And so you don't understand people who live in an apartment with no charging space or far enough out in the country where a drive to the nearest Walmart would kill the battery in a Nissan Leaf. You don't need a truck or van for your job. Or have to worry about keeping a car that's 12-20 years old together as a daily driver.

Absoutely not what my post was about.

The USA and Canadian Autoworkers are not responsible for this shitshow but they are certainly going to feel the impact.

I'm saying, not suggesting, that the US and Canadian Auto Industry is getting shafted by US and Canadian governments who are agreeing to give the Chinese a foothold in our countries with these cheap basterdized EV's that don't come close to the safety standards they demand of cars built in our Countries.

As well, if we are going to let this junk in , which is built with slave labor in China,a country with no Social or moral fibre, theres no way we will be able to compete pricewise with vehicles built in North America.

The last time this happened was in the early 70's when we let Japanese compact vehicles in that were also built using cheap labor and inferior materials.

How many 70-74 Toyotas have you seen recently?

They all rotted to **** and fell apart because of inferior design and materials.
