Well I figured I'd make one of these threads to tell a little about my car and show the progress pics.

I bought a 68 Dart from a guy in San Jose CA a few months back. After shipping the car from CA to TX I decided to put a 3rd gen Hemi in her. The Hemi will be an original 5.7L but it will be stroked from a 345 to a 383...

4" bore
custom CP forged pistons
carrillo forged rods
forged 6.1L crank
manley valves
ported heads
TTi headers and motor mounts
weldtech custom oil pan and block off plate
650-750 carb (not sure which one)
mopar intake
reverse manual VB 727
narrowed 8.75 (3.91 GRS)
tq trust 15x10 wheels
275/60/15 BFG's
CAP tubular upper and lower control arms
73 Dart disc brakes

The car is in the paint and body shop as we speak.... While there I figured I'd get it mini tubbed. lol

I'm going all black w/a red stripe
I'm undecided on either a 6 pack hood or bulge hood....

Interior

rocky mt dash
68 barracuda buckets
hurst promatic shifter
not sure on the color of the interior yet

Here are some pics I took last wk of them doing the mini tubs. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress.

I really wanted that car but couldn't bring myself to add another to the fleet.

Are you going to take the flange off the frame so you can get the tub flush mounted?

Looks like you did the template of the tub (BBD style) and didn't cut straight across to the rail (powerpoint). Is that right?

I sent you that Mini-tub powerpoint didn't I? Can't remember?

I'm getting ready to mini tub the 71 Dusters this week.

DO you have any pictures of how close they cut the tubs to the frame rail?

those are all the pics I have as of now.... they did cut the tubs all the way to the frame...so I the most space possible. I measured approx 15" from frame rail to lip.

Nice! That's going to be a sweet ride! :thumblef:

One question though, what's that ugly blueish/purpleish piece of Hemi food next to the Dart in the pics? 1st meal upon completion..? :la:

lol thats a chebby SS Nova or cheville (sp)....yuck..... that guy who owns it used to be a huge mopar guy...So be it mor mopars for us right? lol

Wow things are really coming together USCG CHARGER!!!:thumblef:
You have been busy, and she will love that motor.
Keep us updated on this one:shock:

Yeah, my paint and body guy loves to drag his heels though.... I really expect this car to be running by mid feb 2008.

What gas tank are you guys gonna use? Ricks hot rod shop has a nice stainless steal one that matches the factory one with the pump inside. I guess you could also mod a factory one with efi pump inside.

USCG CHARGER, Cool project,id say just use your stock flat hood. Unless your cars gonna be a drag car. If its gonna be a street car, id go with the sleeper look.

gocirino, is that the Keisler automatic tranny on the back of your 6.1?

since mine is not going to be EFI I dont have to worry to much about the fuel issues u guys have to deal with. I was planning on using a stock tank w/a electric fuel pump...something easy...lol.... I dont think I have to have the return lines u have to ... I think....

Very observant! Yes it is the Kiesler 4 speed auto and it has been hell on earth dealing with them on this application.

I'll have to get back with you on the wheel specs if you want back spacing - (Billet Specialties 9.5"x17 rear and 8"x17 front)

As for the fuel - return line does not run to the motor, just back at the tank. Almost like a carb installation.

What kinda of issues the the automatic?
Also, i guess the return line going back to the tank is what they mean when they say returnless?

THe fuel returns back by the tank and the fuel pump just like the SRT 8 Chargers.

AS for the auto, nothing has gone right;

1) The instructions for the install are TOTALLY incomplete even by their admission. Simple things like torque settings, what parts get used and how they are assembled, no mention the stock pilot bearing has to be removed before their torque converter can go on. No mention that nobody had a clue what starter works and which doesn't since I ended up having to cut the block to get one to fit.

I would call them with many similar issues and they would look at me like my dog does when I say something he doesn't understand.

2) They sent the wrong bolts to attach to the motor, took months for new ones, and now I am still waiting for torque converter bolts. Yes, I could go buy some grade 8's myself but when you shell out $5200 you want what you paid for! Kit doesn't mean run to the hardware store every five minutes.

3) The kit was advertised as a "NO CUT" install on an A-body. In reality I had to remove and re-design the upper transmission crossmember.

4) Tech support has been real hit and miss... more miss.

I feel that most companies send you their crap to just get you in the ballpark.. then your on your own. Even the TTi headers were a problem.

With one exception, RMS Alterkation, Bill Reilly is the owner, designer, and manufacturer of some real good front and back end suspension products. This guy is a first class operation and cannot do enough for you. Call the place and more than likely he will be available for questions and seemingly has all the time in the world for you. He's got my business and recommendation forever. We need more folks like him in this business and others.

Your right, Bill is awsome to work with.
All the install problems with these aftermarket transmissions, makes me sometimes want to just go with a 727 or a good old 4 speed. I want the tko 5 speed, but im not looking forward to all the stuff i need to do to get it in the car.

Do you have a picture shooting straight into the wheelwell? Curious how the tub was attached, to the side of the frame rail or on top of it.

Thanks

Looking good! :thumblef:
