Resto progress

congrats!! i have been there myself! when you get it back in the garage, you'll probably sit and stare at it for hours............... and then stare at it again for more hours.........

happy reassembling!

I think that is the straightest body I've ever seen! Look at the reflections in the side of the car; the reflected lines are PERFECTLY straight from front to back.
Who did that wonderful work?

Good Luck with the car!!!

George

Wow, that looks great. Two questions, what color is that grey or silver, and how much did it cost you to have them finish the prep work and paint?

That looks awsome. Great job on the body, paint and color. Beautiful.
Now if I can get mine half that nice I would be happy. Congrats

Thank you all for the kind words!! George R - I had the work done in a shop in Hershey Pa. called Carlevale custom cars LLC I saw some of there work on line in an ad and it was beautiful so I called them.

- Dodgenut64 - The color is the factory color codes for AA1 buffed silver metalic and QQ1 dark red metalic its PPG base coat clear coat.

As far as How much it has cost for the to do the finish work and paint I am just shy of 14 grand!!! Now actually saying that (writing it) out load makes me a bit faint - what do you guys think ?? is this what is to be expected is this the norm for nice work? Let me know.
And again Thanks for all the nice replies.

Well, they sure do nice work! I don't think I've seen one or two cars in my life that were as straight and finished as well as yours is.
I guess you "get what you pay for".
Having said that, I can never swing $14K for bodywork/paint, so I'll have to live vicariously through you!

Sweet looking car, wonderful bodywork, great colors.....
Drop a set of Cragar S/S wheels on that puppy and it will be as close to perfect as I,.......I mean you, can get it!

Best of Luck with it. Please, keep the updates coming. I need the inspiration!

George

Believe me George I couldnt swing 14k either - lets just say I did a Toy consolidation - in other words I sold 3 toys to paint one!!

But thanks bud - and Im keeping an eye on your bad *** Dart resto too.

Congratulations b67cuda!
I am at los for words!!:love7:
That is a great paint job I am looking at.:tongue9:
And they did some very VERY impressive work for you.
That is going to be one heck of a rag top cuda.:thumbrig:
How does it feel to be on cloud nine.:toothy10:

Well hot damm b67cuda,

That beautiful car of yours just makes me that more inspired to see the same in my garage!

Its John in Seattle, I have the 68 RHD AA1 Barracuda Convertible.

Man, she came out gorgeous! It sure feels good when things come together, don't they?

I've been slowly, but surely making progress on mine. I took the interior down to bare bones too. Though I wish mine was a little cleaner inside, floors are pretty solid but some work will be needed.

As always is the case i guess, especially if it lived in England...........can you say "London Fog"?

I got a pic of the orginial owner with it back in late 69 in the UK.

Check out the outfit, and the flower in his lepel, those crazy brits, i tell ya!

Make sure you update us on its progress daily if not weekly, well maybe not daily.....

Can't wait to see how the interior looks, installed!
GREAT JOB!!!

John - All I can say is BRILLIANT!
That is an super cool car! is it a 340S ? auto or 4sp? I have a good
buddy who has a 68 yellow 340S 4sp vert. I wonder if that luggage
rack was factory and how did that antenna get back there! Man thats
awesome picture Thanks john
Cheers! Bill

Hey Bill, no its actually a 318, with an (w/center con) auto.

Man I wish they made them with 340's for export. The biggest liter allowed was the 318 for its weight/size.

Everything else was 340 spec, 4-piston KH's disc brakes, 8 3/4 rear w/3:53's, HD suspension, HO alternator and oh lets not forget the mighty 2bb!!

They were pretty much FS when the went export, at least with the items mentioned. It was told to me that when they shipped, they (meaning mother mopar) much wasn't expecting to see them again hence all the HD goodies.

Warrick-Wright was the importer at that time and from my understanding they were not a dealership for Chrysler as they were an importer of all kinds of car makes and models both US and Europe.

As for the luggage rack it was one of those that clipped then strapped onto the trunklid and the ant on the rear was spec for the exports as was the radio delet plate (long gone) option.

In the UK they used a different broadcasting format then in the US, hence no radios but they shipped with antenna's installed.

No hole in the front fender, personally I like the antenna in the back, very sporty I say!

So......any pics of the interior yet, sorry.....you got me going!

Well John once I get the car back from the painter (there still doing some finishing details) progress should be swift and the pictures will flow - I have had the upholsery done for several years in waiting. I am working on getting the dash ready and cleaning and detailing the transmission and driveshaft - anyway its gonna be a week or so before the car comes home and from there on out there should be lots to do and update. Hopefully Ill get the tranny painted this weekend and Ill post pictures of that.
Bill

Looks great! I would say $14,000 is probably about right. Tons of work, aligning sheet metal, blocking and materials.

Well Ive made mild progress sunce the last post - Its been very cold in the garage so my wrenching is done in short bursts. I got the tranny back together and painted so I thought I would post a picture and smeone had mentioned seeing my seats so Im posting a pic of them in their peaceful slumber in the basement - I will have a home for them soon!!

Thanks for the pics.

I just druel over red interiors, orange ones too.

That's gonna be a show winner for sure.

I agree! Nice job on the seats dude!
Something about a red interior just makes me smile.
Yours is going to be gorgeous with that new silver paint!

Keep at it, and please keep the pix coming!

George

That`s going to be one nice Barracuda when it`s all together! The color combo is great! I can only hope mine comes out even a fraction as good. I can`t wait to see your progress, keep the photos coming!!!

Dude, just imagine, sunny 80 degree weather, top down, v8 gently rumblin, and the wind in your hair. You gotta take pics of your car as its driving down the road. I dream of the day my 64 dart gt convertibles on the road.

Yes sir - its been a long long time - and she was never really running "good". Not to mention I found out while dissassembling that the driver side leaf spring had been completely broken in 2 the whole time Ive owned it.

Bill

Well the old girl is back home - Im almost afraid to get close to it. I am at an impass trying to figure where to start - I have a tendency to get sstuff done only to realize I have to take it apart to do something else - I hate it when that happens!! Any way I figure its safe to start at the firewall - get all my wireing harnesses hung and get the dash back in place - Ill see where Im at at the end of the weekend and take some pictures.

That`s funny, a friend of mine (fishman) just dropped the rear in his 69 only to find the same thing on the same side.

Bill,
I would say you're on the right track. Cowl insulation, wiper transmission, under dash insulation, and dash board assembly.
I would then do the wiring harnesses for engine control and forward headlights.
In the "off time" you can put on small pieces of trim to "see what it's gonna look like"! :D
I can't wait to see that car complete, so I can only imagine how you must feel. That is going to be one beautiful car. I only wish I could see it in person.

George

if your afraid of scratching the paint, use 2" wide blue tape to cover alot of it. i use it liberally if need be. when you remove it, pull it back over itself, not just straight up. this eliminates surface tension and the possibility of lifting or leaving residue.
