The $5,800.00 mistake

-
No...do you read...I did a lot of the resto and mods and most of the assembly but save the paint and bodywork for the pros...and I make no assumptions other than some have $$ to blow and some don't. That's a fact jack.

Cost is not for the original paint but for the repair.....I have never mentioned what I have in this car so put down the blunt and re-read if you wish.

Why does there always have to be some cornshucker chiming in?

That's what is ruining this site....stay out if you want to hate losers.

OUTNFUH8TRS

You posted the question or should I say thread. One must be ready for "cornshukers" like me to comment on a post. Your posting on a site with every kind of social economic background. You are the problem on these type of boards. If my comments rub you the wrong way then ignore them and move on. I was just wondering what all the fuss was about when you can obviously afford such treasures. You should not mind the little people! In the future if you do not wish to have responses you don't like, then don't post!

That is one sweet lookin truck!! What year is that?? Looks like 58 or 59, but the grill is different. My dads got a 58 fleetside almost identical...dont see them too often I'll shoot you some pics. Tell more about it.

Oh yeah the scratch....so it was your own fault?? Pulling it into the garage?? Holy, I'd hate to think what you would do if the kids rubbed against it or the dog waggin his tail hit it. I want my car to look awesome too, but like numerous people have said even trailering it you are gonna get chips. And you were the one that started the post about the price, and basically looking for advice, so I think you arrogance is showin jussst a little bit!! Nice car tho!!

My brother got done with my dads truck on a Sunday, he picked it up on Monday. Tuesday he is trying to get it out of the gate to bing it to me so I can get it to run. It would not idle. He is trying to keep it running while pulling it out and gets it slightly cocked. Clips the drivers side front bumper on the house and catches the gate post inn the middle of the passengers door and puts a 3" scratch direct center. I don't know who was more upset Dad or my brother. Bite the bullet, get it fixed and go on with you life. You can't worry about every little thing that can happen. You trailer it and a piece of debris off the road kicks up and lands in the middle of the hood. Crap happens.

Drive it, show it, enjoy it, my best friend past away at 55, life is short, or sell it to me and I will drive it, show it and know I will enjoy it till its time to move on. Have a great one.

If you werent so arrogant,I might have a little empathy for you.But I dont.

And then you come on here and disrespect its members ? Nice job.

It's guys like you that drive up insurance rates. Thanks.

Buy the way,100 point car,no where close. Its kind of cute though.

Thanks for the laugh !

am thinkun this is a poser Q, ment 2 entertain ?? GAWD !!!! meanwhile we got awhole lotta GOOD FEEDBACK HERE !!! way 2 go guys --gotta agree with jerzt /cudaspaz - - i prefer to be the furst to do my own damage if S^%D^$YT gonna happen -and it has -aint feeling so bahd either once one realizes being NOT invincable and cars in a bubble we dont wanna see-anyway - = THEY R MENT TO B DRIVEN - not ART -on a WALL -once your over that - its SO SIMPLE -EH

Simon, Is that you? Momoparman is in to oil futures, so not only is he driving up our insurance rates, he is driving up the cost of everything. That car should not be a trailer queen. Get the paint fixed, the overdrive working, the A/C working, the dash lights correct, the oil to stop leaking, the gauges working, and run a mid 12, then it may need to be a trailer queen. JK

What year is it?

'59 ?? I have a '59 apache shortbed fleet with the wrap rear window as well.. still a work in progress... still wish it had the original engine :( ... maybe I can find a year correct 283 or something. 8)

Like I said, I learned quickly that nothing goes as planned and you can't keep them perfect forever.

I just wonder if the car is repainted back to perfection, what happens if/when another scratch comes?

At what point do you throw up your hands and say "I guess the god's have spoken, I need to accept that I can never keep this thing perfect?"

I still feel for ya man, and I know how beutiful the paint is, but if the judges at the show have the crass to pass you by because you have a small scratch that was touched up very nicely on such a gorgeous car, then they can go hug a chevy LUV truck for all I care.

Too much of a stresser for a trophy.

HA HA HA HA AHHH HA HA!:toothy10:

I love it.

You're going to repaint your whole car because of a stupid scratch? Wow.....I'm speechless. My Duster has scratches all over and I don't really care. It's a car, it's meant to be driven. Even when my Charger is painted and on the road and I get a little scratch, I'm sure not gonna loose some sleep over it...

I say put some all terain tires on it and womp those dirt trails !!!!!!

Someone else coined the 100-point car (I don't know what that is or where to go to get judged like that) so read the thread more carefully.

Having a near 100-point show car does not suck...it's awesome.

And yes...it is almost a 100 point car so don't you think I should try to preserve that?

Seems like you need to re-read your own posts before getting down on others...

Nice car. $5800 in damage? No way. I don't know where you're located, but if you are anywhere near Mundelion, IL go to Ron's shop: www.rmrestoration.com if you're close to Arizona, go to Brandon's shop: www.brandysautobody.com you'll have to forgive his lousy photos he's a restoration expert, not a photographer.

Sounds like whoever quoted you $5800 knows you have money and is willing to take advantage of that. No need to over spend to get it fixed right.

I found this whole thread totally entertaining.. I wasnt gonna add to it for fear of being labeled one of the haters, (or losers... whichever it was) but... I say everyone can just do what they want with their rides, but, I have to agree there isnt much need to be arrogant about it.. Im glad you can afford all those toys, and can afford a zillion dollar paint job.. thats all very nice.. Me, I wouldnt spend that kind of money on a paint job, even if I could (which if you havent guessed by now, I cant) ... I mean if its $5800 to fix a scratch, I shudder to think what the original paint job cost...

I would be scared to death to even breathe on my car after all that money on paint.. and sure, it looks awsome, and Im sure pics dont do it justice.. but to me, it would suck.. I wouldnt want to drive it, would never haze the tires again, and forget about letting my fiance drive it, that would NEVER happen.. oh and theres my son, .. yep... dont think hes gonna get the keys.. Again.. if thats what your into, great.. dont tread on the little guy doing all he can to keep his 'play car project' going and enjoy it... I too see snobs at shows, and walk right past thier cars no matter how nice they are, and move on...

So, if that makes me a hater, then so be it... But this summer when I am smoldering the hides the last thing I will be thinking about is a $5800 paint fix..

i cant see any insurance company paying to repaint the entire car.

God help you.....some of you have real issues.

For those who know what they are talking about and have meaningful comments here is the breakout. Thanks for your comments as they made me think and pushed me to talk to my painter.

Estimate
27hrs...re-finish, paint, clear, color sand, buff
32 hrs....reassemble..doors, hood, trunk lid, chrome trim.
800.00 materials.
Total: $5800.00

The reason I posted what the cost of the REPAIR was is so I could get an idea about weather it was legit or not.....some of you took the time to be cool and understand why I mentioned that...some of you just chime in with stupid comments about my supposed arrogance because I mentioned the cost....if I'm arrogant than those who accuse me of being so must be more so...if not than why call me out for supposedly being rich or having mucho $$$ to spend???....well I don't. I have a family, mortgage and I am a blue collar dude as well....I just happened to piss away most of my retirement money on this car....smart move or not that's the facts.

Thanks again to the cool ones and if you want to discuss this more with me you can see me IN PERSON at world of wheels in Kansas City. That's at the Bartle Hall on Feb 12-14. Ask for Vince and bring a couple cold ones.

http://www.autorama.com/casi/show/kansascity.php

The exact place, time and directions are on the link above....I would love some face to face debate time with any of you. You will see in person that I am not arrogant in the least bit.

THANK YOU FOR THE VALUABLE INPUT...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

And in closing...haters, please do not waste your time trying to put me further down as I got what I needed from this thread (good and bad) and am moving on. I don't want the haters wasting any more time typing when they should be out looking for a job.

Confusedcuda....in spite of all the mean spirited comments, your still my boy and you can hate on me anytime....most likely it will be when I have to come over and help you get your car started......again.:thebirdm:

Good day all and God be with you.

I started the 100 point car comment, I just threw a number out there thinking it sounded good as I really don't know jack squat about car judging, thank God.
thanks for offering an alternative solution for the guy AB7fh before the thread turns into a free for all. LOL.

I would definitely look at other shops, but it almost seems his mind is made up to have it totally redone.
I don't if that is the best route to go, but I do know that some guys insist on repainting the whole car instead of touch up.

I'm sure Mullinax can tell you what his body guy recommended for his car under similar circumstances.

I think I'm just gonna shut up about this now since I'm tired of listening to my own B.S already.

You're smokin' crack if you really think the trunk needs to be involved in the repair to the edge of your front fender.

32 hrs for re-assembly??????????

The carnes they watch and look for the rubes.
A sucker is born every minute as the carney folk prove.

I don't care why it costs $5,800....the fact that your going to repaint the whole car over a little nick is just plain retarded. I mean if the fender got caved in and the paint was f'ed than yeah, of course go for it but over a little nick....jeeezz.

I started the 100 point car comment,.

Yep, I know that. I just posted the links to his threads which agreed that the car is close to a "100 point" car.

He went on in a later post to say he didn't even know what that meant or where they would judge cars like that, putting down those who were continuing to throw around the "100 point" comment.

My sincere hope it that you can get your car repaired the way it was before the scratch event happened. I also hope that you win all the trophy's you want and that you enjoy your car the way you want to. What caused my response was in the way you came across to members who gave you suggestions. It did come off as arrogance and bragging in my opinion and some others also thought the same. I can empathize with your situation. You have a great deal of work, money and time invested and should be proud of what you have. By the way I have a very good job and enjoy the back and forth bantor on occasion. Hate is such a strong word to use! I don't hate you I have never met you! You can call me any name you want it does not phase me one bit. Just know your name calling only projects your true self.

God Bless you and your car,
John D. Beckerley

I don't think he meant to dwell the 100 point comment, nor did I.

It was basically a figure of speech and I got what he meant by it.

Why am I still here?

Dammit, someone call Dr. Phil.
